Iconic Photo

It's been almost a year since this photo was snapped at the MRH 2YO Showcase held on the Ocala Breeders Sale grounds in Florida.

The first three horses picture near to far are: Legitify, Secret Crush and Seize The Grey. Legitify and Secret Crush were friends, having grown up together at their farm, and often shared a paddock together at Wavertree Farm in Ocala.

When the time came they all went in different directions:

  •     Seize The Grey to trainer D. Wayne Lukas at Churchill Downs in Kentucky,
  •     Legitify to trainer Richard Mandella at Santa Anita on the West Coast, and later,
  •     Secret Crush to Todd Pletcher's Palm Beach Downs in Florida

All three are currently training well, though Seize The Grey was the star of his 2YO season when he won at second asking at Saratoga (defeating Dornoch, the full brother to Kentucky Derby winner Mage, and a top Kentucky Derby contender himself for 2024). Seize The Grey went on to finish 3rd in the Skidmore Stakes at Saratoga earning black type, and 4th in the Iroquois Stakes at Churchill Downs, earning Kentucky Derby points for this year.

Legitify and Secret Crush are both yet to make their first start, though both are training well, and should be debuting in the near future.

(The chestnut in the far background is believed to have been Kindle '21, now registered as A Day To Remember. He's a son of American Pharoah currently with Mark Glatt on the West Coast.)
