Catching Up on Updates - 2YOs and 3YOs

TWO YEAR OLDS

Black Tie Optional (Not This Time colt)

• Black Tie Optional has remained on a work schedule at Los Alamitos, where he is breezing well, including a 4F in :48 flat in company with his usual mate, Cherokee Nation, in July prompting assistant trainer Mike Marlow to report, “He worked great. Probably his best work to date.” His most recent work was from the gate on August 1st (three furlongs in :37.20). His team is bringing him along slowly and no immediate start date is expected. 

Instant Impact (Upstart colt)

• Instant Impact debuted on July 27th at Saratoga. After his race came off the turf course due to rain, trainer Kenny McPeek opted to keep him in. He ran fourth, notably handled the loading process and broke well—a good sign after some of his gate issues in the mornings. Jockey Kendrick Carmouche allowed Instant Impact to find his rhythm though he did seem to be spinning his wheels a bit on the wet track. He did show good fight when the horse coming up behind him tried to run by, and he galloped out well. Instant Impact departed Saratoga for Churchill Downs last week, and ran a bullet work at Churchill on August 11th going 4F in 47.20. He is expected to make his next start at Ellis Park in approximately 9-10 days.  

Misstrial (Constitution filly)

• Misstrial had her first start at Del Mar (the same day Seismic Beauty won the G1 Clement L. Hirsch), but stumbled badly out of the gate, almost going to her nose, and then colliding with the horse to her inside. In spite of her troubles, she still made a valiant effort, but was tiring by the time she hit the stretch. She was back on the work tab on August 11th at Del Mar, covering 5F in 1:00.60 while on the inside of stablemate Falcon Jet (2nd on debut on 8/3). We were glad to see Misstrial no worse for the wear after her debut and expect to see her get one more run at Del Mar before the summer meet ends. There are two maiden special weight options remaining at the meet, on August 30th and September 6th.

Munny Problem  (Munnings colt)

• Sadly, Munny Problem was being trained by D. Wayne Lukas who's sudden passing on June 28th left him trainerless. He was sent to Highlander training center with the Coach's two other trainees, Caldera (stakes placed 3YO) and Trust But Verify (unstarted 2YO). Munny Problem is doing well at Highlander during his R&R period. He should be started back in training in approximately 60 days.

Native Brew (Yaupon colt)

• Native Brew made his first start and ran 5th. Unfortunately, the race took a toll on this first time starter, and he will need time off before running again. 

Sirius Pursuit (Knicks Go filly)

• Upcoming possible debut dates - Saturday, August 23 at Ellis Park or a later date at Saratoga. Her workmate, Amended Dreamer, will make her debut at Saratoga on Saturday, August 16th, in the 4th race. This will give a better indication of Sirius Pursuit's standing among 2YOs. Her trainer is Jena Antonucci.

Trust But Verify (Into Mischief colt)

• Trust But Verify was transferred to Highlander Training Center after the death of D. Wayne Lukas, who had been training this promising colt. A decision was made to send Trust But Verify to "Coach's" good friend Kenny McPeek. Trust But Verify had his final breeze at Highlander Training Center where he covered 3F from the gate in :37.72. Highlander’s Jeff Hooper reported “Everything went smoothly and [he] worked a nice 3/8ths from the gate in company, outworking his work mate comfortably.” Trust But Verify was sent to the McPeek barn at Keeneland and is currently awaiting the next van to join his string at Saratoga.

THREE YEAR OLDS

Good Cop (Tiz The Law colt)

• Has transferred from Fair Hill to Todd Pletcher's barn at Belmont Park (open for training during renovations) and has been putting in a works there. 

Isle Blue (Speightstown filly)

• After the death of Christophe Clement earlier this year, she is now being trained by his son, Miguel Clement who has done much of her hands-on training to this point. Isle Blue ran a stunning bullet work on 8/9/25, running 4F in 47.40 for the fastest work of 76 that morning.

Nakoma (Vekoma filly)

• Currently turned out. Expected to return to racing later this year. Trained by Jena Antonucci.

OTHER HORSES

Caldera (Liam's Map colt)

• Since losing his trainer (D. Wayne Lukas -- "Coach"), Caldera was sent to Highlander where he has been cooling his heels. After a valiant run at qualifying for the Kentucky Derby which didn't pan out due to stumbling and grabbing a quarter out of the gate in the Louisiana Derby (a Kentucky Derby qualifier), Caldera ran back 2nd in a minor stakes at Oaklawn hoping for a Preakness berth, then went through a growth spurt/weight loss period and other issues that required a rest. No new trainer has yet been selected.

Here's The Kicker (Liam's Map filly)

• After her last start in the G1 Ruffian Stakes, which didn't go well for her, she was transferred to Saratoga to try her hand at the spa. While her first work there was an eye-opening bullet running 35.03 for 3F on June 30th, her next three works were not as impressive. Unfortunately, the deep surface at Saratoga does not seem to be to her liking. Trainer Saffie Joseph, Jr. has opted to send her back to Florida where she has done her best running, so her next start will most likely be at Gulfstream Park. 

Good Cop Update from Eclipse

Good Cop has been jogging for several weeks and is now ready to begin galloping.  He will log the miles at Fair Hill building back up his foundation to begin a breezing program.

A video of Good Cop this past week at Fair Hill was included, where the 3YO son of Tiz The Law was looking healthy and quite fit. He appeared well-mannered, which has been a concern because he had been acting quite studdish. His improved attitude may have been the result of gelding him earlier in the year.

Good Cop Update

Good Cop  (Tiz The Law) was gelded without complications. He has been jogging as well as aquatreading at Fair Hill over the past couple of weeks.

He is now back moving forward and will continue to build back his foundation with extended training.

We will continue to update on Good Cop's progress as we receive intermittent updates.

Good Cop Ready for Next Step

Our son of Tiz The Law should be heading to Todd Pletcher's barn at Belmont Park after one more work with Bruce Jackson. 

Reports are he's showing a lot of talent, but is a bit high on himself so will need to mind his manners. 

Good Cop Update

Good Cop made his way onto the worktab at Fair Hill with Bruce Jackson.  It has been a long wait but we are looking for him to move forward now that he is back working.

Our son of Tiz the Law posted 3F in 38.40 over the synthetic surface at Fair Hill.  He seems to have emerged from his work in good form and will continue on a weekly work schedule.

If all goes well with his next work or two he will be ready to ship back to his conditioner Todd Pletcher.  We will look forward to more positive updates on Good Cop's progress.

Good Cop Getting Ready to Breeze

We received a report from Eclipse today:

Good Cop continues to do well at Fair Hill with Bruce Jackson while logging the miles galloping.

Our juvenile son of leading Freshman sire Tiz the Law will be ready for a breeze in the coming week.  This is a nice milestone to reach on his return from time off.

We will keep the partners up to date on Good Cop's progress and we are excited to report him getting back on the worktab.  

Good Cop Update

Good Cop is turned out at Bruce Jackson's Farm at Fair Hill in Maryland while completing the final weeks of his prescribed time off.

Our son of the leading Freshman Sire, Tiz the Law is due to return to an exercise program on 10/1/2024.  At that time, he will ease back into aquatreading while remaining turned out for a couple weeks.  This will allow him to get a nice cardiovascular workout without 100% of the pounding on his joints.

Good Cop will follow this routine for a couple weeks before returning under tack. 

We are excited to get Good Cop back going with eyes on a late Fall campaign.

Good Cop: Update from Eclipse

We received an upbeat report on Good Cop as he continues his break at Fair Hill: 

As you know, we have always held Good Cop in high esteem and that remains the case.

The NY-Bred son of Tiz the Law had some growing pains when he got into the Pletcher Program in NY, but he's handling his rehab at Fair Hill very well and we're encouraged by his progress.

We believe this move will serve Good Cop very well in due time.

While we all would have loved to have seen him flaunt his talent at Saratoga this summer, I have every faith our patience will pay off.

We'll report in coming weeks as he progresses and gets back into light exercise to build back up.

Good Cop Taking a Break

Our exciting 2YO son of Belmont winner, Tiz The Law (first crop), is going to take a break after it was determined his muscles and joints are showing some signs of stress. Not surprising for a 2YO just starting serious training, and we're 100% on board with addressing a problem before it develops and giving these babies the time they need to mature into strong and competitive athletes.

The downside is that he probably won't have a start at Saratoga this summer, but that's okay. We think he has a bright future ahead, and are glad he's being given every opportunity to develop at his own pace and grow into his frame. You may recall Seize The Grey was given a freshening last October and took most of the winter off -- and look where he is now!

Good Cop Update and Progress

Good Cop has been at Belmont with Todd Pletcher and after an initial breeze to get into Todd's program, he got the sniffles, which set him back a few.

While recovering from his baby cold, they also worked on a gluteal muscle that was a bit tweaked, so it'was a productive couple of weeks while he was on the mend.

The NY-Bred son of Tiz The Law (who happens to be off to a flying start at stud) is now 100% and will likely return to a breeze schedule within the week, give or take.

Good Cop has always impressed us, so hopefully that trend continues as he gets back into a workout pattern.

Good News on Good Cop

Good Cop and his training partner, Article (Constitution), made good training partners at Ocala and now have teamed up on the big track in NY, Belmont Park, as both have gone to Todd Pletcher's barn.

The boys cruised their first ever 1/4-mile at Belmont over the weekend and they performed well and professionally, which is a good early sign.

The word from Ocala Stud is that Good Cop was acting perhaps a bit more precocious than Article, but they were in lock step in their introductory breeze and for now they'll keep one another company as they get into the swing of the Pletcher program.

It's early days to be sure, but so far so good and we'll keep reporting as they progress. 

Good Cop Update

Good Cop recently joined Todd Pletcher's barn at Belmont Park to continue his progression towards a career debut.

He graduated with honors from Ocala Stud and will begin a breeze routine with his trainer in the coming week or so.

We have seen good results from the small sample size of the Tiz the Law offspring so far that have made it to the races which gives us some confidence with what we have seen from our colt as well in his early stages.

We will let Good Cop get into a good routine with TAP and will continue to update the partners as he moves forward in his training program.

Good Cop Getting Ready to Go to Todd Pletcher Barn

Good Cop, our 2YO Tiz The Law colt, is training well at Ocala Stud and David O'Farrell believes he is ready to graduate to Todd Pletcher's program.

He will remain training in Florida until the logistics are finalized for his departure.

We'll post another update once Good Cop has been shipped and has settled into his new surroundings. 

Good Cop Update

We received this encouraging update from Eclipse on our 2YO Tiz The Law son yesterday:

Our Tiz the Law colt, Good Cop, really impressed our group this past week when we were at Ocala Stud watching our stock train.

He has matured and strengthened since we saw him about a month ago and we all like the way he gets over the track with a good mental attitude.

David O'Farrell is also happy with how he has trained over the past months and feels that he will be ready to graduate from Ocala Stud in mid May.  

We will continue to update the partners on his progress and will inform everyone when he is set to join his trainer Todd Pletcher in the coming weeks.

Good Cop Update

We got a glowing report from Eclipse on Good Cop today, who is currently in training at Ocala Stud in Florida. Hard not to get excited when they referred to our colt as "the golden boy."  

I'll include a couple of screenshots from the video but they don't do him justice. He is training very well and expected to head to Todd Pletcher's barn before May 1st! 

He's from the first crop sired by Belmont winner and Kentucky Derby runner-up, Tiz The Law. Really looking forward to his continued progress.

Good Cop Update

Our 2YO son of Tiz The Law, Good Cop/ is doing well at Ocala Stud where he is logging the miles on the track with extended gallops.

In the next couple of weeks the Tiz the Law colt will have a strong enough foundation to begin a breeze program.

Team Eclipse will be traveling to the Ocala area in a couple weeks and we look forward to their report  on his progress.

Good Cop Training at Ocala Stud

One of only two 2YOs we currently have in training, Good Cop -- a son from the first crop of Belmont winner and Kentucky Derby runner-up Tiz The Law -- is shown at Ocala Stud in Florida where he is currently in training and learning the basics of working under saddle and galloping. 

Introducing GOOD COP

Well, we did it. We said no more horses unless the right Eclipse horse came along...and he did!

How about a son of multiple G1 and classic winner, TIZ THE LAW, a Belmont winner who himself is 

a son of Constitution by Tapit. And he's from a solid blacktype dam line. 

He'll be a 2YO this coming New Years Day, so could be running as soon as next Summer or Fall.
