Horses That Left our Stable in 2024

Adaay in Asia - claimed

Our talented import never faired well on our eastern tracks (Keeneland, Aqueduct, etc.) and was later sent West, where she didn't improve at Santa Anita or Del Mar. She was claimed out of a race, but has since been sent to Tampa Bay Downs where she has scored a 1st and a close 2nd in consecutive races in 2024.

English Jubilee - claimed

Our daughter of English Channel out of a Kitten's Joy mare never seemed to be able to put a solid race together until she won a claiming race at Woodbine on Halloween night and was claimed. She had eight starts with one 1st, one 2nd, and one 3rd and $34,000+ in earnings. In her only stakes entry, the Cup and Saucer at Woodbine, she ran 4th. She has not worked or run back since being claimed, but may have been sent south for the winter, as she was by us the previous year.

Guinevere - sold at Keeneland November / race or broodmare

Our stunning daughter of Justify only had 5 starts, but won both of her starts on the dirt, and came in 3rd on the tapeta at Turfway Park in her debut. Purchased as a possibly top turf contender, she finished her only two races on turf dead last. She was put through the Keeneland November sale as a racing or broodmare prospect in early November and brought $90,000, purchased by one of the participating partners. She has since been entered into a race at Mahoning Valley, possibly pending her broodmare career in the spring.

Lady Blitz - retired / sport horse or broodmare project

After showing a ton of talent and ramping up the hopes of many of her owners early on, and finishing 3rd in her debut at Saratoga with Irad Ortiz in the irons, Lady Blitz could never seem to put together a career. She was sent back to Wavertree Farm to retrain in early 2024, and during the process a flap issue was found in her throat. After two unsuccessful surgeries she was retired and sent back to her consignor as a broodmare or sport horse project.

Lane Way - retired / at Old Friends in Kentucky

After a wonderful career where our son of Into Mischief frequently won or placed in graded stakes, set a new track record on the downhill turf course at Santa Anita, and finished 2023 as 1st alternate to the Breeders Cup Sprint, a decision was made to retire him at age 7. He was sent to Old Friends Thoroughbred Retirement Farm in Kentucky in late Fall, where he can now rub elbows with other famous retired horses such as Silver Charm, Big Brown and Cozmic One.

Legitify - claimed, has raced

Our chestnut son of Justify was claimed on May 24th. Legitify continued his career in shorter sprint races at Los Alamitos and got a win by 2-2/3 lengths at Santa Anita on October 5, 2024 going one mile on dirt. He ran back on 11/22 in a 1 mile claiming race at Del Mar, ran 7th and was subsequently claimed again. He has not run back since the end of November.

Magical Ways - claimed and has been racing

Our son of Maclean's Music, Magical Ways, continued his career after being claimed in 2023 at Aqueduct, and has registered some wins and strong performances increasing his current bankroll to $262,000+ with 5 wins, 3 2nds and 4 3rds from 24 lifetime starts. His last two Equibase speed figures at Aqueduct were 104 for 3rd and 108 for 2nd!

Mo Temptation - retired / broodmare in California

Our promising daughter of Mo Town was retired from racing on May 19th with only one race under her belt. Frequent setbacks led to the decision to retire her from racing in her best interest. She'll be a broodmare in California, with a date with a talented California stallion, Brickyard.

Pioneer Prince - claimed, has raced

Our gelded son of Pioneerof the Nile was claimed in August by top trainer, Doug O'Neill. He ran back on August 17th with a win, and on September 1, where he finished 7th.

Straight to Glory - retired / hunter/jumper in Texas

Our son of top UK freshman sire Cotai Glory struggled with a series of setbacks including bulking up which led to the decision to geld him in an attempt to reduce stress due to weight on his joints but he never made it to a debut. As part of the Royal Duet with Guinevere, they were simultaneously retired on October 29th. Straight to Glory has found a home with a young equestrian in Texas who will train him as a hunter/jumper.

English Jubilee Breaks Maiden in a Thrilling WIN!

English Jubilee had a very tough trip tonight at Woodbine, but showed amazing heart first in being shuffled back, then making a terrific bid to pass in a tight spot on the rail, and once through the very narrow gap, went after the leader and ran her down to win by a neck.

All in all a brilliant win, but sadly one that will end our ownership of the daughter of English Channel, as she was claimed out of the race this Halloween night.

New connections:

1 Claimed horse: English Jubilee

New trainer: Darwin D. Banach

New owners: Hiller, John and Lofts, John

As with our previous horses, we will continue to follow her. Her page will be marked as CLAIMED and moved down with our other previous horses.

English Jubilee Post Race Update

English Jubilee finished 6th beaten by 6 3/4 lengths, on October 6, 2024, at WOODBINE in Race 2.

Off odds: 2.65

She went off as the favorite, broke well then lost ground out of the gate to be running last by 20 lengths in a ten horse field. Made up ground late, but the best she could do was a 6th place, only 6-3/4 back.

She was not claimed.

They may try blinkers next time, and another drop in class.

English Jubilee Runs 3rd at Woodbine

English Jubilee overcame a hard check early on in her race at Woodbine today that put her into last place, but she rallied for 3rd in the stretch. (We thought she might have grabbed second but she got caught by another closer before the wire.) All-in-all, a pretty nice effort, and best of all, it does not appear she was claimed, so she'll be back to race for us another day. Good Job, English.

English Jubilee finished 3rd beaten by 5 1/4 lengths, on September 14, 2024, at WOODBINE in Race 1.

FOLLOW UP:

We received an update that cast a lot more light on English Jubilee's failure to mount a strong rally. Since the channel was so focused on the paddock activity, post parade, warm up and gate load of a MSW at Churchill Downs instead of the live feed at Woodbine, they didn't broadcast her race until nearly 20 minutes after it had run, and didn't cover any of the pre-race hijinx we were just filled in on.

"English Jubilee threw a wing-ding before the race, as she can do on occasion, and she blasted Patrick Husbands in the face, causing Patrick to require concussion protocol after the race and it probably rung the filly’s bell, too.

They were both dull around the oval and made just a mild bid to be a non threatening 3rd behind the filly we knew would be tough..."

So, as they say, there's the "rest of the story."

It would have been helpful if we could have actually viewed the issues with the gate load at Woodbine, instead of the channel droning on and on for nearly 25 minutes about some random maiden special weight at Churchill while a LIVE RACE was going off at Woodbine, but that's the issue we face with television coverage on certain channels these days.

English Jubilee Doesn't Shine in Return

English Jubilee failed to land much of a blow in her comeback today at Woodbine, just about splitting the field of 12 (including a late scratch) while well beaten at the wire.

She didn’t have the most ideal of trips, as she was hung out very wide, which is not the place to be, and then remained on the wrong lead for a good part of the stretch.

We had realistic expectations coming into this race and English Jubilee ran to just about those expectations.

She definitely needed the race today, but a drop in class into a Maiden Claiming event is probably in store, as she’s a bit exposed at this point. We’ll see how she emerges from the race and see what the  game plan will be.

English Jubilee has Arrived

English Jubilee has arrived at Woodbine (Canada) and made her presence known. With several races under her belt as a 2YO, top trainer Mark Casse, and her English Channel x Kitten's Joy pedigree, we're excited to see what she'll do in her 3YO season.

English Jubilee Update

Needless to say, the winter and spring did not go as we had hoped for English Jubilee, as all of her races in Florida either got rained off the turf or didn't get used at all. While we'd have preferred she's had a prep race to prepare her to be in peak form for the Woodbine (Canada) meet, she remains fresh and should head North of the border soon.

There is currently a circle around a MSW event at Woodbine on June 1st at 1 mile. The turf season will just be starting at Woodbine then and this is the first turf MSW option, so it could be a starting point for English Jubilee to tune up for a big second half of her season.

We'll report back as the June 1st target nears.

English Jubilee Training Video

We received this update video from Eclipse yesterday regarding our English Channel 3YO filly, English Jubilee. Unfortunately, she's been having trouble finding a suitable race that isn't canceled due to weather in Florida, so her next start may very well be at Woodbine. The Canadian track will be opening soon.

English Jubilee Still on Track to Start at Tampa Bay

English Jubilee is still on track to start at Tampa Bay, however her race for Sunday was not written.

The race is expected to be on the card for Wednesday, and if so, she should be entered tomorrow.

English Jubilee is Out for This Weekend

English Jubilee will not be making her US debut Sunday, as we hoped, and has instead retargeted a MSW at Tampa Bay Downs on March 24th. This will be a "shake the dust off" out before she is expected to ship back north to Woodbine (Canada) for the 2024 meet.

We'll update the UPCOMING list momentarily.

English Jubilee Update

English Jubilee did not draw into the field or onto the Also Eligible list for this coming Sunday's MSW going long on the lawn at Gulfstream, though she did put in a strong 1/2-mile on the turf at Palm Meadows this past Friday in tandem with Gallant Mischief, which should tighten her up nicely for a return to racing.

There's a mile turf MSW on the 10th and a 1 1/16-miles turf MSW on the 24th, both at Gulfstream, so we'll keep an eye on both as possible preps to get the Ontario-Bred filly primed for Woodbine in April.

We'll update our "Upcoming" list above to removed the MSW she didn't draw in to for March 3rd and add the MSW on the 10th that is a possibility.

English Jubilee Work in Florida and Update

English Jubilee's work yesterday:

Palm Meadows Training Center 2/14/2024 Turf 5F 1:04.90 Breezing 11/11

We were a little concerned about English Jubilee's slow numbers, but the info we received this morning has reassured us there is nothing to worry about and the slow work was by intention:

English Jubilee got in a nice endurance-building workout on the turf at Palm Meadows yesterday for Mark Casse. The daughter of English Channel has done well since being given the latter part of the Fall and the beginning of winter off to freshen.

If all goes well, she'll run in a 9-furlong turf MSW at Gulfstream Park on March 3rd.

This is a race designed to set English Jubilee up to be able to be on top of her game when the meet reopens at Woodbine.

English Jubilee is a really nice filly with top turf breeding and we believe her 2YO races followed by a freshening may have set her up beautifully for the summer at Woodbine in Canada.

She had three starts in her 2YO season, with the last showing her top speed figure of a very respectable 84 in a stakes race in October where she just missed placing.

Her 2YO races were as follows:

Woodbine 10/14/2023 8 Cup and Saucer Stakes (Black Type) 4TH    84

Woodbine 10/7/2023 5 Maiden Special Weight TB 7TH     64

Woodbine 9/17/2023 8 Maiden Special Weight TB 5TH     73

Looking forward to her first start in 2024!

English Jubilee Works at Palm Meadows

Pretty nice work on English Jubilee at Palm Meadows this morning. Though it was nowhere near a bullet, 48.45 for 4F on turf is a good showing and very nice time.

It appears she may have run with Gallant Mischief also of the Mark Casse barn, a well-bred Into Mischief x Quiet American mare who has one start and did not place.

English Jubilee Works

Slow work for English Jubilee this morning at Palm Beach Downs in Florida.

Palm Meadows Training Center 1/31/2024 Turf 4F 51.10 Breezing 20/25

This is much slower than her last work two weeks ago on 1/17/2024 at Palm Beach when she ran 4F in 48.05.

We are hoping there is a reason related to training that she ran a slower work today and will update this post if a report is received.

English Jubilee Works

English Jubilee, our English Channel daughter owned in an Eclipse partnership, has moved from Mark Casse's training site in Florida to Palm Beach Downs, joining a few of our other horses, though in Mark Casse's barn.

She ran a sharp work this morning on turf, details as follows:

January 2nd was a Three Bullet Day!

January 2nd of this week was marked by quite a milestone as three of our partnership horses all scored bullet (fastest) works on that day for their distance.

They were:

English Jubilee at Mark Casse's training center

Legitify at Santa Anita (trained by Richard Mandella)

Secret Crush at Palm Meadow Downs (trained by Todd Pletcher)

The same day Adaay In Asia had a very strong work, running the 4th fastest time of 86 works at Santa Anita. She's trained by Phil D'Amao.

Quite a momentous day!

It's a Bullet Week!

And yet another bullet work, this one from English Jubilee this morning. It's been quite a week for our stable!

English Jubilee to Ocala, Florida

English Jubilee has arrived at Casse Farm to get a short break in Ocala, Florida, as she has shown she's not a fan of the synthetic surface at Woodbine and their turf season has come to an end.

She has a strong juvenile foundation under her belt and we look forward to her 3YO season.
