Horses That Left our Stable in 2024

Adaay in Asia - claimed

Our talented import never faired well on our eastern tracks (Keeneland, Aqueduct, etc.) and was later sent West, where she didn't improve at Santa Anita or Del Mar. She was claimed out of a race, but has since been sent to Tampa Bay Downs where she has scored a 1st and a close 2nd in consecutive races in 2024.

English Jubilee - claimed

Our daughter of English Channel out of a Kitten's Joy mare never seemed to be able to put a solid race together until she won a claiming race at Woodbine on Halloween night and was claimed. She had eight starts with one 1st, one 2nd, and one 3rd and $34,000+ in earnings. In her only stakes entry, the Cup and Saucer at Woodbine, she ran 4th. She has not worked or run back since being claimed, but may have been sent south for the winter, as she was by us the previous year.

Guinevere - sold at Keeneland November / race or broodmare

Our stunning daughter of Justify only had 5 starts, but won both of her starts on the dirt, and came in 3rd on the tapeta at Turfway Park in her debut. Purchased as a possibly top turf contender, she finished her only two races on turf dead last. She was put through the Keeneland November sale as a racing or broodmare prospect in early November and brought $90,000, purchased by one of the participating partners. She has since been entered into a race at Mahoning Valley, possibly pending her broodmare career in the spring.

Lady Blitz - retired / sport horse or broodmare project

After showing a ton of talent and ramping up the hopes of many of her owners early on, and finishing 3rd in her debut at Saratoga with Irad Ortiz in the irons, Lady Blitz could never seem to put together a career. She was sent back to Wavertree Farm to retrain in early 2024, and during the process a flap issue was found in her throat. After two unsuccessful surgeries she was retired and sent back to her consignor as a broodmare or sport horse project.

Lane Way - retired / at Old Friends in Kentucky

After a wonderful career where our son of Into Mischief frequently won or placed in graded stakes, set a new track record on the downhill turf course at Santa Anita, and finished 2023 as 1st alternate to the Breeders Cup Sprint, a decision was made to retire him at age 7. He was sent to Old Friends Thoroughbred Retirement Farm in Kentucky in late Fall, where he can now rub elbows with other famous retired horses such as Silver Charm, Big Brown and Cozmic One.

Legitify - claimed, has raced

Our chestnut son of Justify was claimed on May 24th. Legitify continued his career in shorter sprint races at Los Alamitos and got a win by 2-2/3 lengths at Santa Anita on October 5, 2024 going one mile on dirt. He ran back on 11/22 in a 1 mile claiming race at Del Mar, ran 7th and was subsequently claimed again. He has not run back since the end of November.

Magical Ways - claimed and has been racing

Our son of Maclean's Music, Magical Ways, continued his career after being claimed in 2023 at Aqueduct, and has registered some wins and strong performances increasing his current bankroll to $262,000+ with 5 wins, 3 2nds and 4 3rds from 24 lifetime starts. His last two Equibase speed figures at Aqueduct were 104 for 3rd and 108 for 2nd!

Mo Temptation - retired / broodmare in California

Our promising daughter of Mo Town was retired from racing on May 19th with only one race under her belt. Frequent setbacks led to the decision to retire her from racing in her best interest. She'll be a broodmare in California, with a date with a talented California stallion, Brickyard.

Pioneer Prince - claimed, has raced

Our gelded son of Pioneerof the Nile was claimed in August by top trainer, Doug O'Neill. He ran back on August 17th with a win, and on September 1, where he finished 7th.

Straight to Glory - retired / hunter/jumper in Texas

Our son of top UK freshman sire Cotai Glory struggled with a series of setbacks including bulking up which led to the decision to geld him in an attempt to reduce stress due to weight on his joints but he never made it to a debut. As part of the Royal Duet with Guinevere, they were simultaneously retired on October 29th. Straight to Glory has found a home with a young equestrian in Texas who will train him as a hunter/jumper.

Magical Ways WINS Again!

MAGICAL WAYS WINS AGAIN!!!!! I knew this was going to be this guy's year. So sorry we no longer own him, but he seems to be in great hands from what he's showing on the track.

He's logged two wins and a second from three starts in 2024. Absolutely awesome! The son of Mclean's Music notched his second victory in a row at a 1-1/8 mile $82K Allowance at Aqueduct, adding another cool $45,000 plus to his winnings. He is really showing his true colors at last, and they are winning ones!

Good boy, Magic!!!

Magical Ways Wins

Magical Ways, a gelded son of Mclean's Music who we formerly owned until he was claimed, won his race on Sunday at Aqueduct in a very nice stretch effort, earning an 89 Equibase speed figure.

We look forward to his continued success in his 5YO year.

Magical Ways finished 1st by 1 1/4 lengths, on February 24, 2024, at AQUEDUCT in Race 4.

"Magic" Scores a Brilliant Bullet Work

Our old friend (previously owned) Magical Ways turned in a bullet work this morning on the Belmont training track.

Belmont Park 2/6/2024 Dirt  4F 49.81 Breezing 1/35

This guy ran a very game 2nd at Aqueduct on his first 2024 start on 1/27, earning a 94 E-speed figure. He has never come close to a bullet work in the past year and we hope that maybe the lightbulb has turned on for him. Exciting development for this Maclean's Music son. We'll keep you posted. 🙂

Magical Ways Runs 2nd at Aqueduct

Magical Ways (our previously owned gelding sired by Maclean's Music) really showed up for Race 10 at Aqueduct today, finishing a game 2nd in a 13 horse field with a very nice closing run. He only lost by half a length. This was his first start in 2024, and he earned a 94 E-speed figure for his good effort.

Hope to see him continue to perform on the board or maybe move up to another win next out. :D

Race summary:

Magical Ways finished 2nd beaten by 1/2 lengths, on January 27, 2024, at AQUEDUCT in Race 10.

Off odds: 9.10

The winning horse was Reddington, a  5YO son of Uncaptured (who is a son of Lion Heart, as is our broodmare, Soulful).

Magical Ways (formerly owned) Wins Again

Magical Ways (formerly owned) WON his race at Belmont at the Big A today by 6-1/4 lengths! According to the chart, he was even eased in the stretch run. And then Magic was claimed once again so has left Linda Rice's barn.

Magical Ways Wins at Saratoga

Magical Ways gets the WIN at Saratoga today in a photo finish! He's #2 in the white blinkers, fending off a challenge and a bump from his rival. (We no longer own him, but still follow.)

Hurray, Magic!

Magical Ways is the #2 horse
with the white blinkers.

Magical Ways (formerly owned) entered at Saratoga

Got the final entry for our (formerly owned) Magical Ways in R#8 at Saratoga on 8/10. $16k claimer. 7f. Definitely a field of well-bred horses that have never won two races.

"Magic" appears to be the favorite, as of now. Wishing him the best!

Magical Ways Scratched in Today's Race

We received a notice that Magical Ways (no longer owned) was scratched in today's race at Saratoga. The notation said the reason was due to the veterinarian. We don't know at this time why he was scratched.

Magical Ways Entered at Saratoga Today!

Well, this was a surprise! Our (formerly owned) Maclean's Music colt, Magical Ways, has shown up at Saratoga. Not only that, he'll run today (about 1:26 MT) in R#5 with Jose Ortiz up! He's dropping in class again to a 16K claimer (and likely to get claimed, which isn't necessarily a bad thing depending who files the claim). He's also stretching out to a mile which should also be a good thing for him. I plan to tune in if it's televised, and I'll report back on the outcome. [The photo below was taken by a fellow partner at Belmont Park on July 3rd.]

Magical Ways at Belmont Park (Photo)

One of our former partners on Magicals Ways got this nice shot of him at Belmont Park today with Jose Ortiz up (currently tied for top jockey with his brother, Irad Ortiz, Jr.) Magic sure looks great. Sadly, he ran 6th. Photo credits to Laurie Ackerman.

Magical Ways WINS!!!

Magical Wins had a decisive win today in the fourth race at Aqueduct. He broke and ran with the front runners, then pulled away coming out of the turn and continued to increase his margin until late stretch, when another horse began closing but was no match for our Maclean's Music son.

Here's the race. (This is from a full day of racing at Aqueduct but should begin just as the horses come out onto the track. As you'll see, one of the announcers was not very complimentary toward Magical Ways.)

But his wonderful performance came with a bit of a sting.

Magical Ways was claimed out of the race, and has now left our stable. :'(

We understand there was a four-way shake for the claim (meaning four different entities wanted to claim him at a claiming price of $40,000), so he was very much in demand. Maybe, in hindsight, he was dropped a little too low in class off his four Maiden Special Weight starts, with a place in one, but there's no sense second-guessing that decision now. Still, it worth noting that top jockey Junior Avarado was in the irons for the first time and this was Magical Ways first race on a dry track at Aqueduct.

We're very sorry to see our "Magic" go. He was one of the first horses we bought into in the MRH stable. We wish him all the best for his future.

We'll be archiving his page in the next few weeks, and have thoroughly enjoyed the ride he took us on, especially this dominating closing victory. What a thrill!

We'd hoped to have a wall of these win photos
before this guy moved on, but at least we have one.
Congrats and farewell to Magical Ways. (Claimed)

The partnership congratulates Magical Ways on his decisive win
...and then says goodbye. (We were not present in NY to be in the photo.)

Magical Ways Entry

Magical Ways had a solid half-mile maintenance breeze this morning at Belmont Park, covering the four furlongs over the training track in 49.84 seconds (42/87).

Our 4-year-old colt may also have an out on Friday, April 21st at Aqueduct. Magical Ways was entered in the 4th, a MCL at 1 mile in distance. He drew post 4 (out of 7) with Junior Alvarado aboard. Post time will be 2:56 p.m. ET.

Magical Ways Update

Magical Ways breezed a half-mile on Saturday morning at Belmont Park, covering the four furlongs in 50.85 seconds (183/286) over the training track. The son of Maclean’s Music worked in company with stablemate Mercante, a 3–year-old son of Gun Runner who is entered in a maiden special weight at Aqueduct on Apr. 13.

The 4-year-old colt is doing well and trainer Bill Mott is expecting an extra to be available for him shortly as the race on Apr. 6 ($40,000 maiden claiming / six furlongs dirt) did not fill. He will be entered as soon as Aqueduct writes a similar race.

Magical Ways Work

Magical Ways remained on schedule and breezed a half-mile on Friday morning in 48.48 (15/130) at Belmont Park.

For the second consecutive week, the 4-year-old colt worked in company with stablemate Victory Way.

There are a handful of race options during the month of April in the current Aqueduct condition book and we'll let you know once a specific race has been finalized.

Magical Ways Work - 3/24/2023

Magical Ways (4-Year-Old Colt)
Your comments for this horse were: OURS - partnership - son of MacLean's Music
Date: March 24, 2023
Track: BELMONT PARK
Distance: Four Furlongs
Time: 48:95 Breezing
Track Condition: Fast
Surface: Dirt training
Rank: 22/146

A slight regression from his last work, but we haven't received the work analysis as yet, so can't know what the goal was for this exercise. Still, 22nd fastest time out of 146 works is in the upper strata of the workouts this morning. We'll pass along info from the analysis when we receive it.

We'd really love to see this guy get off the Aqueduct surface for his next race, but we'll see what happens.

Magical Ways Race on Friday

Magical Ways again had a great start to his race at Aqueduct today where he was stalking in 2nd place all the way into the first turn of the 7 furlong race, but when the point came where he needed to make a move to overtake the leader, he failed to mount a challenge, and instead let two other horses pass him by to finish fourth.

After remarks from the jockey, Magical Ways may possibly be looking at a surface change for his next race. Several partners observing the race commented that his knee action seemed to indicate he might fair better as a turf horse.

We'll keep you posted on any further updates. Meanwhile enjoy these photos taken by a partner in attendance.

We're Back to Twelve

We're back to twelve partnership horses with the addition of Kindle '21, but in deference to Disdainful, we don't want to call this group the "Terrific Twelve" so we needed to come up with a different tag for our partnership stable roster.

After some thought, we decided on the "Tremendous Twelve."

They are, in alphabetical order:

Coexist

Kindle '21 (now A Day To Remember)

Lady Blitz (formerly Patsy's Kim)

Magical Ways

Mo Temptation

Pioneer Prince

One Last Night '21 (temporary tag)

Sarrocchi '21 (now Legitify)

Seize The Grey

Simply Enchanting (formerly Enchante '21)

Song of the Lark '21 (registered Fireball Birdie)
