Horses That Left our Stable in 2024

Adaay in Asia - claimed

Our talented import never faired well on our eastern tracks (Keeneland, Aqueduct, etc.) and was later sent West, where she didn't improve at Santa Anita or Del Mar. She was claimed out of a race, but has since been sent to Tampa Bay Downs where she has scored a 1st and a close 2nd in consecutive races in 2024.

English Jubilee - claimed

Our daughter of English Channel out of a Kitten's Joy mare never seemed to be able to put a solid race together until she won a claiming race at Woodbine on Halloween night and was claimed. She had eight starts with one 1st, one 2nd, and one 3rd and $34,000+ in earnings. In her only stakes entry, the Cup and Saucer at Woodbine, she ran 4th. She has not worked or run back since being claimed, but may have been sent south for the winter, as she was by us the previous year.

Guinevere - sold at Keeneland November / race or broodmare 

Our stunning daughter of Justify only had 5 starts, but won both of her starts on the dirt, and came in 3rd on the tapeta at Turfway Park in her debut. Purchased as a possibly top turf contender, she finished her only two races on turf dead last. She was put through the Keeneland November sale as a racing or broodmare prospect in early November and brought $90,000, purchased by one of the participating partners. She has since been entered into a race at Mahoning Valley, possibly pending her broodmare career in the spring. 

Lady Blitz - retired / sport horse or broodmare project

After showing a ton of talent and ramping up the hopes of many of her owners early on, and finishing 3rd in her debut at Saratoga with Irad Ortiz in the irons, Lady Blitz could never seem to put together a career. She was sent back to Wavertree Farm to retrain in early 2024, and during the process a flap issue was found in her throat. After two unsuccessful surgeries she was retired and sent back to her consignor as a broodmare or sport horse project. 

Lane Way - retired / at Old Friends in Kentucky

After a wonderful career where our son of Into Mischief frequently won or placed in graded stakes, set a new track record on the downhill turf course at Santa Anita, and finished 2023 as 1st alternate to the Breeders Cup Sprint, a decision was made to retire him at age 7. He was sent to Old Friends Thoroughbred Retirement Farm in Kentucky in late Fall, where he can now rub elbows with other famous retired horses such as Silver Charm, Big Brown and Cozmic One.  

Legitify - claimed, has raced

Our chestnut son of Justify was claimed on May 24th. Legitify continued his career in shorter sprint races at Los Alamitos and got a win by 2-2/3 lengths at Santa Anita on October 5, 2024 going one mile on dirt. He ran back on 11/22 in a 1 mile claiming race at Del Mar, ran 7th and was subsequently claimed again. He has not run back since the end of November. 

Magical Ways - claimed and has been racing

Our son of Maclean's Music, Magical Ways, continued his career after being claimed in 2023 at Aqueduct, and has registered some wins and strong performances increasing his current bankroll to $262,000+ with 5 wins, 3 2nds and 4 3rds from 24 lifetime starts. His last two Equibase speed figures at Aqueduct were 104 for 3rd and 108 for 2nd!

Mo Temptation - retired / broodmare in California 

Our promising daughter of Mo Town was retired from racing on May 19th with only one race under her belt. Frequent setbacks led to the decision to retire her from racing in her best interest. She'll be a broodmare in California, with a date with a talented California stallion, Brickyard. 

Pioneer Prince - claimed, has raced

Our gelded son of Pioneerof the Nile was claimed in August by top trainer, Doug O'Neill. He ran back on August 17th with a win, and on September 1, where he finished 7th. 

Straight to Glory - retired / hunter/jumper in Texas

Our son of top UK freshman sire Cotai Glory struggled with a series of setbacks including bulking up which led to the decision to geld him in an attempt to reduce stress due to weight on his joints but he never made it to a debut. As part of the Royal Duet with Guinevere, they were simultaneously retired on October 29th. Straight to Glory has found a home with a young equestrian in Texas who will train him as a hunter/jumper.  

Adaay in Asia (formerly owned) to run December 28th

Our recently claimed Adaay in Asia has been entered to run at Tampa Bay Downs on 12/28/24 in a Starter Handicap going 1 mile on turf. It is Race 8 on the card, scheduled to run at 4:10 PM ET / 2:10 MT. $16K purse.

Adaay in Asia will be starting from post 10 of 11, with S. Camacho in the saddle. Her new trainer is shown as V. Carasco, Jr. and new owner Amaty Stables. 

She is currently the second betting choice at 3/1.

Adaay In Asia Claimed

Adaay in Asia had a good early race today at Del Mar, improving from 5th to 3rd before falling back in the stretch to finish 7th. 

She was claimed out of the race, along with four other horses. 

We now bid another horse farewell from our steadily dwindling stable. Retirements and claims have hit us hard the last couple of months. 

Adios, Adaay. You are a lovely girl, and we hope you find a good life and many successes on the road ahead. 

We'll continue to follow her throughout her racing career, as we have the three other horses who've been claimed from our stable. 

A Day To Remember Paddock Schools at Del Mar

A Day To Remember paddock schooled at Del Mar today, ahead of his 2024 debut on Friday. A Day To Remember has run once before, on 7/29/2023 at Del Mar. It was the same day Seize The Grey broke his maiden in his second start at Saratoga. We're hoping "Remy" can make up for lost time. 

Adaay in Asia also paddock schooled in the same group, but was not caught on camera. 

Adaay In Asia Update

Sometimes things don't go according to plan. 

Our beautiful Adaay In Asia, who was purchased after a 4 race win streak in the UK, has yet to win a race in the US. This girl shines in the morning, running very quick times, but can't seem to put it together in the afternoons for her races - most of them stakes. 

Sadly, the managing entity has decided to drop her in class.

Adaay in Asia Runs a Bullet "Maintenance" Work

Adaay in Asia breezed a maintenance half-mile this morning over the Santa Anita training track under jockey Armando Ayuso. She was credited with a final time of :47.60.

This returned a bit faster than what trainer Phil D’Amato was looking for, but she did it all on her own. Your daughter of Adaay will have one final breeze, which will come at Del Mar before her next start.

Her next start will no doubt be a drop in class to a claiming race, which is unfortunate considering how brilliantly she's been working on the All Weather Track, which isn't yet open for racing, but will be in the near future. If we can hold on to her, a switch in surface may be what she needs, but we don't know if she'll have that opportunity. Now that Golden Gate is closed  :'(  there are currently no other options that we are aware of for competing on an All Weather Track in California. 

Adaay In Asia Update

Adaay in Asia breezed a solo half mile over the Santa Anita training track this morning with Geovanni Franco aboard. The official clocking was :48.80 (1/12). She was keen early which is fairly typical for her but she still finished up nicely.

Pending all continues well, Adaay in Asia will be pointed to the aforementioned $32,000 claimer on July 25th at Del Mar. 

Adaay In Asia Update

Adaay in Asia remains in good order at Santa Anita Park since her recent third-place effort. She is scheduled to return to the work tab on Friday and we will be targeting either a claiming $32,000 spot on July 25th or a first-level allowance for the $40,000 claiming tag on August 1st. 

Given Adaay in Asia has already cleared her first-level allowance condition, if the race on August 1st was to overfill--which is a very likely scenario in the early parts of the Del Mar meet--she would be excluded. Horses that are eligible for the condition will get preference over her. Due to this, we will focus on that July 25th option, but keep the latter spot as a backup if needed.

Adaay In Asia After Race Report

Adaay in Asia checked in third this afternoon at Santa Anita Park and was NOT claimed.

She broke well under Joe Talamo but was not able to keep up with the early pacesetters which did not come by surprise. While the eventual winner #2 Itzel set honest fractions on the front end, we were hopeful someone else would be able to put pressure on her as she was able to remain brave on the lead by herself. Your daughter of Adaay settled in seventh through most of the early running while two wide, eventually dropping down to the rail once moving up into sixth into the turn. She responded with a steady run throughout the stretch but had too much work to do to catch the winner. She galloped out very well after the wire and appears to have bounced out of the race in good order.

Following the race jockey Joe Talamo told Phil he was pleased with her effort and recommended the possibility of trying a “cheater” blinker to help put her in the race earlier.

We will follow up in the coming days with an update but it was great to see Adaay in Asia respond with the class relief. Of course, we had much higher hopes for her when coming to the U.S. but we believe we have found the right level for her now. 

She’ll get a little time in between races now as the Santa Anita meet concludes on June 16th and the Del Mar summer meet does not begin until July 20th.

Adaay In Asia Ready for Tomorrow's Run

Adaay in Asia paddock schooled today ahead of tomorrow's race at Santa Anita Park. She handled herself very professionally and all systems are a go for tomorrow. She is dropping in class and will be running for a tag. Phil D'Amato also trains her (same trainer as Simply Enchanting). Race information for tomorrow is as shown on the UPCOMING section above.

Adaay In Asia Race Recap

We're still getting caught up on posts after Preakness weekend.

Adaay in Asia checked in fifth in this Saturday’s Mizdirection S.

The bay found herself in a pretty good spot early sitting in second last behind a crowded pace up front. She circled up out wide heading for home, but idled at the back of the pack as eventual winner Miss Lizzy passed her from last. Adaay in Asia was able to pick off some tiring rivals late, but she never seriously threatened for a placing.

For as well as she trains in the mornings, it’s fair to say she once again found the local stakes company a bit too tough. Class relieve for next time might be in order, but we’ll huddle up with trainer Phil D’Amato and our partner in the coming days and figure out a game plan.

Adaay In Asia Update

Adaay in Asia breezed a solo half mile in :49 flat over the Santa Anita Tapeta training track this morning. This was a fairly straightforward breeze being her first work back since the G3 Wilshire and your daughter of Adaay cruised around the training track. At this moment we do not have any info on a next race target but we will keep you updated once we do.

Adaay In Asia Race

Adaay In Asia finished a very disappointing 8th in the G3 Wilshire Stakes today. 

We're all a little baffled and disappointed in her performance. We'll report back after she's been checked over and we get the after-race report.

After Race Report

Adaay in Asia checked in 8th in yesterday’s G3 Wilshire S. Breaking from post nine under Edwin Maldonado, our daughter of Adaay was fresh and left the gates with plenty of energy. As expected, Stay and Scam and Leisurewear looked to set the early tempo, but Adaay in Asia was tugging hard into the first turn while three wide. 

Edwin did his best to get her to settle, but there was no slowing her down on the backstretch. She found herself on the lead shortly after passing the half-mile pole while covering those first four furlongs in :47 and change.

She did give us a glimpse of hope heading into the turn, but once Stay and Scam (eventual runner-up) toyed with our mare, we knew she was not going to be able to fire in the stretch. Adaay in Asia’s run was flat once they hit the top of the stretch. This race reminded us a lot of that Keeneland effort when Flavien Prat and her got into a tugging war down the backside.

She has certainly been a disappointing and frustrating one in regards to figuring out what, exactly, she wants to do. Or perhaps the competition is simply too tough for her in the U.S. at the graded stakes level. We’ll get together with trainer Phil D’Amato and our partner Reeves Thoroughbred Racing to develop a plan for her next step.

Adaay In Asia In Tough for the G3 Wilshire Stakes

Adaay In Asia(GB) has her work cut out for her in tomorrow's G3 Wilshire Stakes at Santa Anita. She's in R#7, P#9, at 5:10 PM MT with E. Maldonado up. 

The 1 mile turf race features an 11 horse field including Stay And Scam, Selenaia(IRE), Leisurewear(IRE), and Turnerloose, a daughter of Nyquist. She'll need to be on her game. 

Racing Manager Joe Moran gave us a rundown of the race via video today. (Screenshot below.) Here's hoping our veteran gets her chance to shine and add more blacktype to her resume.

Adaay In Asia Work Before Stakes on Thursday

Adaay in Asia had her final breeze on Easter Sunday in preparation for Thursday’s G3 Wilshire S. Our daughter of Adaay was credited with a half mile in :46.80 with Geovanni Franco in the irons. This was a much-improved breeze working over the recently opened Tapeta training track which is known to replicate turf more than dirt. She was always traveling better than her mate Poppy’s Joy and continued out past the wire strongly.

All systems are a go for Thursday. Adaay in Asia is 12/1 on the morning line and we will follow up with our race overview before the race.

Adaay In Asia Update

Adaay in Asia breezed five furlongs in 1:01.80 this morning in an improved breeze from last week. She is now targeting the G3 Wilshire Stakes this coming Saturday at Santa Anita. The weather forecast for this weekend is calling for rain, so being on turf we are hoping for limited precipitation. We’ll keep an eye on the forecast. Adaay In Asia Update and Next Target

Adaay in Asia breezed five furlongs in 1:01.40 yesterday morning at Santa Anita Park under Geovanni Franco. Our mare breezed in the dark at 6:30 a.m. and the work started off in company, but Adaay in Asia did not kick on with her workmate down the stretch as hoped and was a well-clear second best. 

She has been training up for a dirt allowance on Mar. 23rd and while all her previous dirt works were intriguing, when she was put to the test with another workmate she did not respond the same way.

The positive thing is she came out of the work in good order but we don't see it being worthwhile to try her on the dirt at the open allowance level. We will now target the Grade 3 Wilshire S. going one-mile on the turf at Santa Anita Park on Mar. 30. 

Nominations will close later this week and we will follow up once they have been released.

Adaay In Asia Update

Adaay in Asia remained on schedule this morning, breezing five furlongs in 1:00.60 at Santa Anita. The daughter of Adaay cruised down the backstretch and stayed steady down the lane. Phil D’Amato remains happy with our mare and continues to wait for a sprinting dirt option to be written. 

She was also nominated to the G2 Buena Vista (mile on the turf) on Mar. 2nd as a backup but our plan remains to wait for the extra.

Adaay In Asia - Change of Plans

Trainer Phil D'Amato has decided not to run Adaay In Asia in the stakes race and instead is looking for an allowance to try her on dirt. Since she is training so beautiful on that surface, the team wants to explore dirt as an option. 

We'll remove her race from the "Upcoming" list and let you know when plans are finalized for her next out.
