Catalyst Likely to Take a Break

Our daughter of Gun Runner broke fairly well and found herself mid-pack in the first turn as expected, but it was evident quite early on that her race was over. When straightening out on the backstretch, she was having to be asked to keep her position and gradually went backwards from there. Once jockey Christian Torres knew his chances were completely over, he wrapped up and brought her home safely.

Following the race, Torres mentioned he heard your filly make some noise in the race, but she seems to have come out of the race in good order and scoped clean. We certainly weren’t expecting an effort like this and will be recommending the filly be turned out and receive a break. She appears to have lightened up weight-wise following this four-race campaign and at this stage, we need to hit the reset button. Hopefully, after some time she can return both physically and mentally better.

Once we have additional discussions with trainer Steve Asmussen and our partners, we will return with an official plan.

FOLLOW UP

Catalyst remains in good physical order out of this weekend’s race but it has been agreed to give your daughter of Gun Runner a break after that most recent effort.

Trainer Steve Asmussen will begin working on arrangements for her to return to De Meric Stables in Ocala, FL. De Meric Stables is not only a partner on Catalyst but they handled her pre-training and consigned her at the 2-year-old in training sale.

Once she arrives in Ocala and the team at De Meric can evaluate her, we will determine a more specific plan and timeline.
