Seize The Grey: Keeneland Blue Grass Follow-Up Report with Video

Seize the Grey could only muster a 7th-place run Saturday afternoon in a very competitive running of the G1 Blue Grass. After a slight delay at the gate when the eventual winner Sierra Leone was slow to load, our son of Arrogate broke in good order before taking up a mid-pack spot into the first turn behind plenty of kickback. He began to back up into the second bend, and was one-paced from there.

Jockey Nik Juarez noted that he and Seize the Grey found themselves a bit farther back early than he would have liked, but it’s tough to say that made much of the difference as Sierra Leone rallied from the back of the pack.

Ultimately, Seize the Grey just didn’t run his race for whatever reason (perhaps the tough competition, or the short turnaround, and/or a somewhat quirky surface) [Edited to add: A 'quirky surface' is our take. This is Ceasar's second sub-par performance over the Keeneland track in the only two races he's run there and it appears he just doesn't care for the surface, but we'll see what The Coach determines.]

The good news is that he seems to have come back in good order thus far, and should have plenty of exciting races to consider and compete in going forward.

We’ll let him bounce back from today’s effort and get with The Coach to formulate what’s next. Overall, it was a fun and exciting lead-up to running in such a prestigious and historic race as the Grade 1 Toyota Blue Grass Stakes. This was Seize The Grey's first Grade 1 level stakes race.
