"Ceasar's" next race is the Pat Day Mile on the Derby undercard this coming Saturday.
Here's a bit of history:
The Pat Day Mile was previously the Derby Trial Stakes and was traditionally run one week before the Kentucky Derby as a last-chance prep for the Run to the Roses. Hall of Famer D. Wayne Lukas owns three Derby Trial trophies, including a win in 1987 with Pat Day himself in the irons.
The Grade 2 stakes was moved to the Kentucky Derby undercard in 2015, so now it is always held on the First Saturday in May.
General Jim (2023), Jack Christopher (2022) and Jackie's Warrior (2021) are prominent horses who have been winners of the Pat Day Mile in the last three years.
