This afternoon, the entries and post positions for the Jeff Ruby Derby Prep race next Saturday were announced. After some initial worry that he didn't make it into the race (based on some erroneous information that was posted), we received reassurance that he may still be selected as an entry and that the entries and post positions would be announced LIVE on Facebook.
Then it was a bit of a nail biter as the 4 PM hour approached (2 PM here) and we waited for the live feed of the announcements and post draws. The ceremony included a few speakers and a little of the history of the race, and the sponsor Jeff Ruby Steaks.

He's in! And he drew Post #9! What an excellent post for a grinder/closer.
Now, his work is cut out for him. He MUST run 1st or possibly 2nd in the Jeff Ruby next Saturday to earn enough points for the Kentucky Derby. 1st place awards 100 points. 2nd place awards 50. This is one of the handful of races as we approach the Derby timeframe that is a 100 Pointer. The Louisiana Derby is another that will be held the same day at the Fairgrounds.
He's been given his chance -- maybe with more than a little Divine intervention -- so now it's up to him, his legendary trainer, and the good Lord to to take this next giant leap forward.
