Seize The Grey: Are Roses in his Future?

After Seize the Grey was back on the work tab yesterday morning at Oaklawn Park, breezing a razor-sharp 5 furlongs in :59.60, trainer D. Wayne Lukas couldn’t be happier with the way our 3YO colt has trained since his comeback race.

Lukas is debating a few different paths for our son of Arrogate. Instinctually, he feels our colt would benefit from one more race going a mile before getting the acid test against some of the top 3YO males in the nation.

On March 23rd, the $200,000 Hot Springs Stakes will take place at Oaklawn going a flat mile against straight three-year-olds. At this point, it appears Seize The Grey will be entered in this stakes and how he performs and comes back from the race will tell our legendary trainer if he's ready to take a major step up to a Derby prep race, or if pointing him elsewhere may be in his best interests (the Preakness and/or the Belmont may be considerations).

We know our colt is in the hands of a legend who will most likely be saddling his 50th Kentucky Derby starter this year. It's just a little too soon to tell if Seize The Grey will be that horse. We'll keep you posted.
