Fireball Birdie ("Firebird") breezed a solo five furlongs from the gate in 1:01.80 this morning at Oaklawn Park. Our son of Uncle Mo stopped the clock at :49.80 for the half-mile under a good hold from his rider Keith Asmussen, and did everything well according to the Asmussen team. The 3-year-old colt galloped out willingly from the 1/8 pole at the top of stretch and seemed to have plenty left in the tank. Fireball Birdie continues to pick up the pace nicely and MRH will discuss a tentative plan for him with Steve.
