Seize The Grey is Now a Bonafide Legacy of Arrogate

Arrogate's Legacies: Seize The Grey, Arcangelo and Secret Oath

Seize The Grey will have an unique opportunity to carry on Arrogate's bloodline. Currently only last year's superstar, Arcangelo, has that ability as a multiple Grade 1 winner now a stallion standing in Kentucky. Secret Oath will also have that opportunity, but on a much reduced scale as a broodmare who can only produce a few offspring in her lifetime.

One thing that's very important to remember is the Seize The Grey is not your typical Arrogate. He got a much earlier start, being stakes placed and a Kentucky Derby point earner as a 2YO, before many young Arrogates had even begun to race.

Though his early career was a bit rocky, he really came into his own more recently -- after a break for freshening over the winter -- with two successive graded stakes victories, one in the Grade 2 Pat Day Mile on the Kentucky Derby undercard, and on Saturday as the newly crowned Preakness winner in a surprise wire-to-wire performance, defeating Kentucky Derby winner Mystik Dan, Santa Anita Derby runner-up, Imagination, and several other very good 3YO colts.

The fact that he had a bit of success against some of the best horses of his crop at two adds an asterisk to his accomplishments that translates well as a future stallion prospect to carry on Arrogate's line -- precociousness. That aspect wasn't really covered in this article, but it has a lot of good information.
