Things never really went our filly’s way as she got nervous in the gate leading her to miss the break. After breaking last, jockey Cristian Torres had to immediately go to plan B, easing her to the rail and trying to save as much ground as possible.
It took her a few strides to fully get comfortable as she experienced a serious amount of kick back but did find a steady rhythm as they entered the backstretch. She gradually moved up positions while on the rail but was unable to sustain any serious run when things mattered most.
We were hoping for a better end result but as per a previous video with trainer Steve Asmussen, we knew she was likely going to benefit from having this race under her belt. Having a horse ready on debut as a 2YO is a challenge in itself and in this case going two turns added another element to that challenge.
This performance certainly doesn’t change our viewpoint on what we hope to see from this filly down the line and we expect to see a much improved performance with more experience and fitness.
The team will make sure she bounces out of the race in good order and then develop a plan with Steve moving forward.
We'll follow up in the coming days with any post-race updates.
