Our update today on Adaay In Asia, after a somewhat dismal run at Keeneland, outlined lots of changes going forward. Here's a condensed and edited version...
Adaay in Asia Update
Following our last update, Adaay in Asia has remained at Keeneland with Ben Colebrook while we have finalized our plans moving forward. After discussing options with our partner Reeves Thoroughbreds and trainer Christophe Clement, we have opted to make a few changes moving forward with the filly which we believe will be in the best interest of her future.
As turf racing comes to an end in New York, the Clement Barn will be transitioning their barn to Florida, and we believe there will be more options out West for the filly to be successful. The biggest challenge we will run into in Florida is the distance of races. With sprint options being five furlongs on the turf at Gulfstream, we will likely be limited only to two turn races which we can’t hang our hat on for Adaay In Asia. We are willing to draw a line through her last race due to how well she ran two starts back at the Big A but we believe California will give us better opportunities throughout early 2024. For example, there are a total of six stake or graded stake options from January - April, contested from 6.5 furlongs - 8 furlongs on the turf. The downhill turf course could be a unique opportunity that may really suit her style well. Trainer Christophe Clement agreed.
Race options include:
January: G3 Las Cienegas S. (Down the Hill)
February: G3 Megahrtz (Flat Mile)
February: Wishing Well S. (Down the Hill)
March: G2 Buena Vista (Flat Mile)
April: G2 Royal Heroine (Flat Mile)
April: G3 Wilshire (Flat Mile)
Due to his success with European imports in California, we will be moving Adaay in Asia into the care of Phil D’Amato. Adaay in Asia will initially ship into the D’Amato’s string at Los Alamitos before moving to Del Mar. While most trainers do not ship their strings to Del Mar for the short Fall meet, D’Amato has opted to do so because of the number of turf horses he has and the ability to breeze them over the turf course there.
The short-term plan would be to get a classified allowance race written for Adaay In Asia towards the end of the Del Mar fall meet but that will be in the hands of the racing secretary. Adaay in Asia will arrive on Wednesday and we will follow up after the exciting weekend of racing ahead with the Breeders’ Cup.
