A Day To Remember Runs a Solid 3rd in Debut

Our boy did good in tough company at Del Mar, running at or near the lead for most of the race until caught in the stretch and then with Bob Baffert trained Heartland (soon to be named a TDN RISING STAR) closing strongly to win and shuffling A Day To Remember back to 3rd. Remi tired a bit in deep stretch. We're really eager to see how much fitness he gains from this out that will carry on to his next start.

Good job, A Day To Remember!

Fancy Quality It Is!

Our newly-named Wootton Bassett filly (formerly One Last Night '21) has settled right in at Keeneland and had her second day on the training track this morning. She galloped with enthusiasm and was very professional throughout. Long-time jockey and now Kenny McPeek exercise rider Robby Albarado was aboard and provided some feedback, and while we love his optimism, this filly still has a ways to go before truly finalizing actual race plans. The hope is she can be ready towards the end of Summer or early Fall.

Because she now has her official name, as with all our newly named 2YOs, her page will change to her new name, and all previous posts will be updated to her official name in the tag. This should happen over the next few days.

Two Entered for Saturday!

A Day To Remember will *debut* on Saturday at Del Mar. It's only a six horse field and our buzz horse will be in the outside post, but with two runners trained by Bob Baffert, he'll have his work cut out for him in his unveiling. See more information above.

Seize The Grey will make his 2nd start at Saratoga. His competition was noted to include a full brother to 2023 Kentucky Derby winner Mage and a half brother to Arrogate himself! The apprentice jockey will give him an edge in terms of weight. See more details like post position and start time above.

We wish them both a safe and productive race! Go Remy! Go Ceasar!

On another note, the first name submitted -- Elusive Style -- has been rejected by Weatherby's (Europe). Fancy Quality was sent as a second name request.

Portrait of Mo Temptation

A nice portrait of Mo Temptation in her debut today, courtesy of MyRacehorse.

Mo Temptation Debut at Del Mar

Mo Temptation made her first start today at Del Mar, an "educational" race for her. There was trouble in the gate from other horses including one who reared and had to be backed out to be checked over by the vet. It was a trying delay, but Mo T stood quietly. She broke poorly near the back of the large 12 horse field, but made up ground to finish 7th. Partners who were there said her gallop out was tremendous and she passed all the the other horses.

All-in-all a very good on-the-job-training debut and she should improve off this foundation. A video of the race and more photos follow.

A Day To Remember is Identified by DRF as a Juvenile to Watch

It's always a good sign when one of our horses is spotlighted before they even debut. A Day To Remember in the Mark Glatt barn was identified as a stand out in this article:

Del Mar 2023: Juveniles to watch for at Summer Meet

Mo Temptation is Set to Debut!

Mo Temptation, our Mo Town daughter, has been officially entered for her debut in Sunday, July 23rd, in the 5th at Del Mar, a maiden special weight going five furlongs on the turf for fillies and mares three years old and upwards.

Unfortunately, Del Mar does not offer maiden special weights for straight 3-year-olds and she will therefore face older horses. Doug O’Neill and assistant Kim Marrs have been pleased with how she bounced out of her most recent gate work and feel while we missed one work, she should have plenty of foundation given this race is only five furlongs.

Jockey Rene Diaz will take over riding duties and will break from post 3 of 12. Post time is 4:00 PM Pacific (5:00 PM Mountain).

Magical Ways Scratched in Today's Race

We received a notice that Magical Ways (no longer owned) was scratched in today's race at Saratoga. The notation said the reason was due to the veterinarian. We don't know at this time why he was scratched.

Magical Ways Entered at Saratoga Today!

Well, this was a surprise! Our (formerly owned) Maclean's Music colt, Magical Ways, has shown up at Saratoga. Not only that, he'll run today (about 1:26 MT) in R#5 with Jose Ortiz up! He's dropping in class again to a 16K claimer (and likely to get claimed, which isn't necessarily a bad thing depending who files the claim). He's also stretching out to a mile which should also be a good thing for him. I plan to tune in if it's televised, and I'll report back on the outcome. [The photo below was taken by a fellow partner at Belmont Park on July 3rd.]

English Jubilee: Work and Update

News on English Jubilee! She ran her 2nd official work this morning, and it was pretty sharp. She's now at Woodbine near Toronto, having been shipped from Churchill Downs in the last 10 days.

Our English Channel x JR's Joy (Kitten's Joy) filly worked on the All Weather track at Woodbine. Here's her stats:

Wesley Ward with La Cuvee '21

We received a video report from trainer Wesley Ward yesterday that La Cuvee '21 is on track to restart training after he was given a bit of a break to mature and grow. La Cuvee '21 was sired by Cotai Glory, a hot young sire in the UK.

Wesley said, "The way he looks physically, I think he's going to be a good one for you guys." A screen shot from the video is pictured below.

Del Mar Arrrivals

Lane Way and Pioneer Prince have both arrived safely at Del Mar in southern California. They are joining our other partnership horses, A Day To Remember and Legitify who are already there.

Lane Way, Pioneer Prince and Legitify are all trained by Richard Mandella.

Mark Glatt trains A Day To Remember.

A Day To Remember - Possible News

One of our partners spotted an entry for A Day To Remember in the G1 Del Mar Futurity in September. We'll update this post when we hear the official news.

Photos from Saratoga

Our fellow partners on Lady Blitz were able to take some amazing shots at Saratoga on opening day with Irad Ortiz up. Many thanks to them for these really spectacular portraits of our promising Audible filly on her second start.

Lane Way, Pioneer Prince shipping to Del Mar

Lane Way and Pioneer Prince are both scheduled to ship to Del Mar this evening (Monday, July 17, 2023). Richard Mandella is the trainer of both horses. We'll report back after they've reached the track and we get our first update.

Meanwhile Back at Wavertree

Several of our 2YOs are already at the track with their trainers or already racing, but not all mature at the same rate. Here are two of our very promising youngsters who are still at Wavertree at various points in the training process.

Simply Enchanting (by Kentucky Derby winner, Nyquist) had to be rested for over 30 days due to a rapid growth phase she went through. In order to reduce stress to her joints and muscles, she was taken off training until her body "could catch up with her." Simply Enchanting has now started back under saddle and is jogging the shed row for the time being. Her exercise regimen will gradually be increased until she is galloping and doing speed works again. Here's a screen shot of Simply Enchanting jogging in the shed row at Wavertree on July 13th.

Secret Crush also had some physical setbacks that required a bit of R&R. He is now back galloping a mile on the track at Wavertree in company. Here's a recent photo from July 13th of one of his works. Secret Crush is the son of top sire Candy Ride out of Elarose (Storm Cat x Take Charge Lady). With his stellar pedigree we're glad he is being given all the time he needs to mature and prepare for his future career.

Legitify has First Gallop at Del Mar

Legitify had his first gallop over the Del Mar track this morning. Trainer Richard Mandella was pleased with how much he has grown and matured physically since he saw the colt at Wavertree in February. Below are a coupleof screen shots from his gallop.

A Day To Remember and Legitify have Arrived at Del Mar

A Day To Remember (American Pharoah) with the Mark Glatt barn and Legitify (Justify) with the Richard Mandella barn have now both arrived at Del Mar in southern California.

As you can see from these photos, they are both taking it all in in very different ways!

Legitify, by Triple Crown winner Justify, prefers
to just take it easy upon arrival at the new location
at the Richard Mandella barn in Del Mar.

A Day To Remember, by Triple Crown winner American Pharoah,
is busy enjoying all the new sights and sounds at Del Mar
in the Mark Glatt barn.

Guinevere Update (The Royal Duet)

Guinevere is currently enjoying some downtime at Gainesway Farm in Kentucky while she matures a bit. The partnership recently checked in on her, and she is doing very well and kicking up her heels in the rolling bluegrass paddock. Here are a couple of screenshots from the video we were providing.

Coexist Wins!

Race 4 today at Ellis Park going 6-1/2 furlongs. Coexist was the outside post (#7).

As anticipated, the extra half furlong was all this girl needed to clinch the win.

She had an excellent break, rated on the backstretch, and started her move forward coming off the first turn. We no longer own this talented filly, but it was so great to see her get the extra distance she needed so she had the room to fully engage those afterburners. Yay, Coe!

She ran an 82 E-speed figure.

Coexist was claimed again. Her new connections are: Trainer - Grant Forster, Owner - Roger E. Snow.

Mo Temptation Cleared to Train - and New Work Report!

Well, we have some excellent news this morning. After being a bit off after her last work, Mo Temptation underwent a thorough vet check and PET scan. Not only was she cleared to continue training, she just ran a solid work this morning from the gate - 4 furlongs in 48 flat! She ranked 2nd fastest of 27 works for that distance at San Luis Rey Training Center.

She'll now continue to move forward with the Doug O'Neill team closely monitoring her health and well-being. She may also do some swimming in the next few weeks to further develop her cardio and respiratory systems, since San Luis Rey has a pool available.

Legitify Shipping to Richard Mandella at Del Mar

Our Justify x Galileo colt has been in a bit of a holding pattern as he waited for a ride to Richard Mandella's barn in California, but we are now pleased to report Legitify is shipping from Wavertree in Ocala, Florida to Del Mar and should arrive in Richard Mandella’s barn Friday evening.

Lady Blitz Runs 3rd on Saratoga Opening Day

Lady Blitz Race Recap

Lady Blitz finished third in a competitive maiden special weight in today’s second race at Saratoga on Opening Day, beaten 6 1/2 lengths. She earned a 70 E-speed figure. Our filly broke much better than in her debut and was able to be more involved in the race early, sitting fourth, but was in a tough position on the inside rail down the backstretch. When the rail opened up, Lady Blitz responded and closed to only be beaten half a length for second-place. The winner #7 Sugar Hi was impressive all the way and earned a well-deserved TDN Rising Star. (Click bold letters to see the announcement.)

This was a much better effort from the daughter of Audible and we viewed a video sent by trainer Todd Pletcher who shared his thoughts following the race. Todd was happy with her performance and reported that he would like to see her run a longer distance due to how she finished. Lady Blitz will also be given the opportunity to breeze on the turf at Saratoga and we will monitor her progress in the next couple of weeks to see what the next step will be for this promising filly.

Pioneer Prince Works

Pioneer Prince had his first piece of work this morning at Santa Anita Park, covering one furlong in :12 flat.

Trainer Richard Mandella wanted to see him back in action before shipping to Del Mar and commented, "That’s a good starting point." Mandella remains pleased with the physical improvements he made from a maturity standpoint during his time off. Our 3-year-old is scheduled to ship to Del Mar over the weekend.

Lane Way: Work and News

Lane Way breezed his second quarter (2 furlongs) in :26.60 this morning at Santa Anita Park. This work panned out perfectly, having a duo of workers in front of him in the stretch, which played out as a nice target for him. Your gelding did it all on his own, and galloped out nicely in :37 and change.

Trainer Richard Mandella is extremely pleased with how our veteran has returned to training and is looking forward to his progression this summer. While we’re ways away, we are hopeful he can be ready for a return in the G3 Green Flash Handicap on September 3rd which he finished 2nd in last year.

Seize The Grey Update

SEIZE THE GREY wasted no time in getting to work at Saratoga. He had his first work over the Oklahoma training track this morning, breezing five furlongs in 1:02.95 on the inside of stablemate Just Steel. This first work back was exactly what trainer D. Wayne Lukas was looking for and he was happy to see an elevated fitness level since "Ceasar's" debut on July 1st. D. Wayne shared that our Arrogate colt is currently being aimed toward a Maiden Special Weight on July 29th -- Jim Dandy Day -- at Saratoga. (Photo from his debut on July 1st at Ellis Park.)

Seize The Grey in his debut

Seize the Grey Post Race Update

Seize the Grey exited his debut in good order and received a 30 Beyer Speed Figure. Following his race, he shipped to Saratoga and will have his first breeze there tomorrow morning. We will follow up with a workout report in the afternoon.

Simply Enchanting Resumes Training

Following a rapid growth phase that necessitated a brief rest from her routine, Simply Enchanting resumes training this week at Wavertree Farm in Ocala, FL.

She's a daughter of Nyquist (Kentucky Derby winner by Uncle Mo) out of Enchante, a daughter of Bluegrass Cat. Simply Enchanting is half-sibling to G2 stakes winner and G1 stakes placed Envoutante, who was sired by Uncle Mo. Simply Enchanting and Laurie also share a birthday in February. (Photo was taken during her rapid growth phase.)

Coexist Entered (No Longer Owned)

Our old friend, Coexist, will have her next start on July 16th at Ellis Park.

Her connections have opted for a slightly longer distance, though not the furlong or two we were hoping for. It will be interesting to see what she can do with the extra sixteenth of a mile. For anyone interested she's PP#8 (outside) in R4 at Ellis Park, post time (Mountain) should be 12:13 PM. K. G. Miller up.

Mo Temptation Update

Mo Temptation, our 3YO daughter of Mo Town, came up a little off after her last work and has been put on rest pending a thorough vet check. It's disappointing because her anticipated debut was quickly approaching, but the welfare of the horse is always our first concern so the partnership is taking a precautionary approach. We'll report back after she's checked over by the vet.

Simply Enchanting Update

Following her 30-day break from training while she underwent a rapid growth spurt, Simply Enchanting is now scheduled to start back up in light training early next week. We will follow up in the coming weeks with content from Wavertree Farm at Ocala.

Pioneer Prince Progresses in Training

Pioneer Prince is moving along nicely in his training and is currently galloping daily on the main track at Santa Anita. Trainer Richard Mandella reported that the 3YO has changed both physically and mentally since coming back from the layoff and he has been very happy with the way he has trained thus far. The plan remains for Pioneer Prince to ship to Del Mar at the end of next week.

Lane Way Workout Report

Lane Way had his first quarter-mile breeze in :25.00 flat this morning at Santa Anita. Your 6-year-old was all business from the get-go and was eager to do more. Trainer Richard Mandella was pleased with the way he went. Everything remains in good order as he continues to move along in his training.

Secret Crush Update

Secret Crush is "coming back online." After a rest to let him mature and grow, the flashy Candy Ride colt has been galloping on the track at Wavertree Ocala. Our update said: "Secret Crush seemed happy and eager to do more. Your 2-year-old has been back galloping for a week...He is moving along nicely." If everything remains in good order, our son of Candy Ride will begin some speed work in about 30 days. We're looking forward to his continue progress toward a debut later this year.
