Blue Curl Updates-to-Date

Our recent purchase of a share in Blue Curl 22 (temporary tag), a daughter of Speightstown out of a Curlin mare, gave us access to her former updates which we'll share here.

Here they are, in order:

OCTOBER 6, 2023

Our filly by Speightstown out of Blue Curl is at Two Springs Farm in Ocala, Florida.

Farm manager Chetley Breeden reported on her progress and has been very happy with her, so far. The yearling has already started jogging under tack in the paddock and seems to enjoy her new job.

We’ll continue to keep you updated as she moves forward in her training.

OCTOBER 26, 2023

Farm manager Chetley Breeden passed along a video of Blue Curl ’22 training in the paddock earlier this month. She is moving along nicely and is also getting accustomed to having a pony next to her. Chetley reported that she has an amazing temperament and is very willing in her training.

Blue Curl ’22 had her first trip around the track last week at Two Springs Farm in Ocala. Working on the inside of a farm mate, our daughter of Speightstown was very professional and did not seem bothered by her new surroundings. They reported that Blue Curl ’22 has a wonderful mindset and seems very intelligent as she continues to impress everyone in pre-training. This is only the beginning of her education but we look forward to seeing her progress in the coming weeks.

at Two Springs Farm in Ocala, Florida

Here's The Kicker Update

Here’s the Kicker exited her debut in good shape and has since remained at Gulfstream Park. She received a 52 Beyer Speed Figure for her effort.

Our daughter of Liam’s Map is back in a steady training routine and they’ll begin looking at race targets after she breezes back.

Given how well she worked over the synthetic track at the 2-year-old in training sale we may consider looking at a Tapeta option but the biggest decision will be whether to sprint her once more or stretch her out to two turns.

We’ll leave that up to the Hall of Fame trainer Todd Pletcher and his team.

Legitify Update

Our son of Justify continues to move forward in his training and is currently galloping on a daily basis over the main track at Santa Anita.

Today he galloped two miles and we were sent a video of him exercising. He looks good and has apparently filled out a bit more.

Trainer Richard Mandella has not relayed a timeline of when he will begin some light-speed work but based off of his current training status, we don't expect that to be too far away.

We will keep you updated with news from the barn.

Lane Way Entry Notice in 2023 Breeders Cup Turf Sprint

As we mentioned yesterday, Lane Way won't make it into the gate of the over-prescribed 2023 Breeders Cup Turf Sprint on Saturday (unless a major miracle happens) but we still received the race notification this morning via Equibase where he is listed as post position number 15 (in a 12 horse field). Another document we saved for posterity. :) It is, of course, a huge disappointment he didn't make it into the main group of starters, but we have to acknowledge what an honor it is to have a horse who won a Grade 2 stakes and had earned the points to be in consideration.

The Breeders Cup has been an impossible dreams for us, and we were alllllllmost there. Not many Thoroughbred owners can make that claim. Lane Way, at 6 years old, is having his best year ever, and we're very excited to see what next year brings with this talented guy and our partnership stable.

Adaay In Asia Update: Big Changes

Our update today on Adaay In Asia, after a somewhat dismal run at Keeneland, outlined lots of changes going forward. Here's a condensed and edited version...

Adaay in Asia Update

Lane Way Breeders' Cup Entry Notice

Unless something extraordinary happens (like a miracle or three!) Lane Way won't make it into the gate for this year's Breeders Cup Turf Sprint because it's one of few BC races that is over-prescribed, but as an alternate we still received the Final Entry notice via Equibase. We saved it for posterity. :)

Introducing Blue Curl 22

Well...we caved and bought into a very promising yearling filly.

She's by top sire Speighstown out of a Curlin mare and she's quite a looker. We'd been wanting a youngster sired by Speightstown and there she was. Just too hard to pass up even though we had said: "No more!"

We now have shares in 19 horses. I think we're done. No...really!

Here she is. Blue Curl '22 is her temporary tag.  (Later officially registered as Isle Blue.) She's the only yearling we bought into this year. I think you can see why this one was too hard to resist.

See her page for more details >>> ISLE BLUE

Mo Temptation Update

Mo Temptation is approaching her 3 month mark at Trifecta Farm during her R and R. The daughter of Mo Town is scheduled to be re-checked in approximately two weeks but we will likely give her an additional 30 days off.

The team at Trifecta reported that our 3YO filly has been handling everything well and that she continues to hand-walk daily.

We will report back with news from the farm in the coming weeks.

Lady Blitz Update

As planned, Lady Blitz returned to the work tab yesterday morning at Gulfstream Park, covering a half-mile in :49.17.

Our 2-year-old Audible daughter remains on schedule for a possible maiden special weight on Nov. 19th at Gulfstream and will have two additional breezes ahead of this targeted race.

We'll keep you posted.

Simply Enchanting Work Out Report

Simply Enchanting had her second three-furlong drill this morning, working on the outside of stablemate Our Consigliere (unraced 2-year-old colt by Street Boss).

Trainer Phil D’Amato reported that this was her first real three-furlong work and that everything went as planned. The daughter of Nyquist took some time to switch leads but finished her breeze strongly. Phil feels she is not far away from breezing a half-mile which could happen in the next week or two.

Fireball Birdie Update

Our team stopped by Becky Maker’s Farm this morning to check in on Fireball Birdie.

The son of Uncle Mo is approaching the 30-day mark and has remained in good order while on turnout. Our 2-year-old is being turned out for a few hours a day and is expected to start back in light training under tack next week.

We are pleased with his progress and his condition and we will keep you updated with more news from the barn.

Seize The Grey Has Arrived at Highlander Training Center, TX

Seize the Grey arrived at Highlander Training Center in Texas this morning in great order. He settled into his new digs and is enjoying his view as seen above. Following a few days rest he will begin getting turn outs.

We are excited about the amenities that Highlander Training Center offers including an aquasizer and track that may be employed in his fitness regimen.

Photos provided of Ceasar arriving at Highland Training Center and the view from his stall provided by MRH staff.

Tamboz 21 Workout Report

Tamboz ’21 had her first five-furlong drill in 1:02 flat this morning at Ellis Park, working on the outside of an unnamed stablemate (by Palace Malice out of Scenic Drive).

Our 2-year-old is getting fitter as weeks go by and the Asmussen team has been very happy with our  daughter of Gun Runner. She will have a couple of additional breezes under her belt including at least one more from the gate before we begin looking at a debut, but we are inching closer.

Pioneer Prince Runs 4th on Return

Pioneer Prince finished 4th today with a very nice effort. There was a bit of trouble on the turf-to-dirt transition on Santa Anita's downhill turf course (leading to the DQ of the #8), but he was with the leaders until the final strides when a couple of late closers got to the wire first.

All-in-all it was a solid effort and we just hope he comes back from the race in good order after a bit of a rough trip.

The Royal Duet - La Cuvee Update

La Cuvee ’21 is moving forward in his R and R and currently walks in the Aquasizer on a daily basis at Stonestreet Farm in Ocala. The team at Stonestreet reported that he will need at least an additional 45 days before he can resume training under tack. We will post further updates when we know more.

Seismic Beauty Pedigree Update

Seismic Beauty’s half-brother by Bernardini sold for $500,000 this afternoon at Fast-Tipton to Jesse Longoria for Kiehne and Brunson. We wish the best of luck to his new connections and we will make sure to follow him in the future!

Seize The Grey to be Freshened for a Spring Campaign

Seize The Grey has had a fantastic start to his career including a big win in Saratoga over top 2YO Dornoch (full brother to Kentucky Derby winner, Mage) and becoming stakes-placed at Saratoga in the Skidmore Stakes, and hitting the board in the G3 Iroquois at Churchill Downs, earning him points to next year's Kentucky Derby.

That said, few Arrogates have even had their debut by this point in their career, including his sire himself, the great Arrogate, and this year's Belmont winner and Breeders Cup Classic entrant, Arcangelo. Although Ceasar again placed in his last out and defeated some good horses, his interests feel it may be a good time to give him a break so he can return from his freshening ready to fire for his 3YO season.

Here's the update we received from MRH.

__________________________________________

Seize the Grey has been in good physical order since his third-place finish at Keeneland on Oct. 14. He received a 69 Beyer Speed Figure which was a slight regression from his previous races. He returned to work this past Sunday, eight days removed from his race, covering a maintenance half mile in :49 flat.

Circling back at his effort 11 days ago, in our team's opinion it was a bit of a flat effort. With five races under his belt this year as a 2-year-old, we believe a freshening would do this colt a world of good. Being by the late Arrogate, who did not make his debut until the spring of his 3-year-old season, we feel Seize the Grey will only improve and develop further physically with a break from training. At this stage of his young career, he will need to improve in order to make a run in the Kentucky Derby and while the timing will be close to get him back in contention for Kentucky Derby points, we feel strongly that the only way we will get him to compete with the top class three year old’s next season is by giving him a break now. To continue on in training now with the idea of having a full campaign as a 3-year-old is a long shot.

Since timing is going to be critical with our current plan, we are going to send him to Highlander training center in Sulphur Springs, Texas. The main reason behind this is that Highlander offers the ability to train and get him up to a half-mile before his return to Mr. Lukas which would likely be at Oaklawn. Due to weather at Oaklawn in the winter and inconsistent training schedule at times, it is crucial to have a horse fit to a certain extent prior to arriving there rather than attempting to get fit at Oaklawn.

He gave us a big thrill as a 2-year-old breaking his maiden at the prestigious Saratoga which is not an easy task and we are even more excited as to what his 3-year-old campaign will bring. Seize the Grey’s amount of time of turnout is to be determined based on how he progresses, but we expect it to be between 30-60 days before starting up in training again.

Highlander is a phenomenal facility which rests on 190 acres that has a 5/8th’s-mile training track and a unique one-mile and three-eighths turf gallop. In addition, their therapeutic center offers an above ground and below ground aquatred, cold saltwater spa and more. The Highlander team has done a great job for our Edge Racing program over the last few years and was responsible for some of the prep work of top Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies contender Chatalas for MyRacehorse trainer Mark Glatt.

Lane Way Does Not Get Spot in Breeders Cup Turf Sprint

We're all a bit in shock, since he's been sitting at rank #10 in a 12 horse field all week, but Lane Way did not draw into the Breeders Cup Turf Sprint for 2023 this morning as per the final by the committee.

He is an alternate, but in spot #4 it will be almost impossible to get into the gate since four who drew in would have to scratch or withdraw.

It just wasn't meant to be. Our boy is in peak form right now though, so maybe there's another stakes (at a more optimal distance for him) that has his name on it.

Don't worry Lane Way, you're still a champ in our eyes.

MORE ON THIS

It is our understanding that some horses with fewer points and/or less accomplishments than Lane Way were selected by the committee to start in the race. As this is a confusing and disheartening turn of events for the owners, more clarification would certainly be appreciated. Here's a message from the partnership:

FOLLOWUP BY MRH

Pre-entries for the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint were released this morning and as many of you have noticed, Lane Way rated 16th of 21-horses. Trainer Richard Mandella and our team were very surprised and disappointed of this situation, feeling that he would get in with 6 points and his recent win in the G2 Eddie D on Sep. 30th. Breeders’ Cup entries are selected based on multiple factors including points and committee and we’ve reached out to the Breeders’ Cup and are awaiting a comment from them.

We’ll be in touch as soon as we have more insight into their decision.

Guinevere Update - The Royal Duet

Prior to her departure on Thursday (10/26/2023) morning from Gainesway, the staff made one final stop-in earlier this week to check in on Guinevere.

Our daughter of Justify looked excellent physically, and most importantly got the final green light to ship back to trainer Wesley Ward.

She has settled in well according to the Ward barn and we will follow up when we receive our next update.

Pioneer Prince - Photos of Yesterday's Work

Pioneer Prince is entered this Friday at Santa Anita. These photos of him (inside) and an unidentified workmate yesterday were taken by partner Carrie Lynn Barker. He ran 4f in 48.20 (13th/68). He'll be on the (non downhill) course at Santa Anita. Mike Smith will be up.

Edited to add: His workmate has been identified. She is Hot Hot Hot, a 2YO filly by Constitution and stakes winner Fancy Dress Party.

Legitify Update

Legitify was spotted galloping on the training track this morning.

The son of Justify looked happy and is getting accustomed to his new surroundings. He will remain on a daily training routine and we will follow up with his progress in the coming weeks.

Simply Enchanting - Third Work

Simply Enchanting had her first three-furlong drill in :36.40 yesterday morning at Los Alamitos. The daughter of Nyquist worked on the inside of a trio including 2-year-olds Mister O and A Walk on the Moon and was solid throughout the whole stretch, galloping out strongly with her stalemate Mister O.

Simply Enchanting finished a head behind at the wire but re-engaged past the wire to gallop out head-to-head with him.

This was a good first three-furlong work for our 2-year-old filly who will remain on weekly work schedule and will continue to gain foundation every week.

Legitify is at Santa Anita

We are pleased to report that Legitify safely shipped to Richard Mandella’s barn at Santa Anita this evening.

The team went to check in on him and sent a video for us to review. The son of Justify looks great and should head to the track tomorrow morning. We will report back as he progresses in the coming days.

Here's The Kicker - Debut Results

Here's The Kicker (Kix) ran an admirable debut today, taking 4th, but showing more than any of our first time starters this year. She went right to the front, then lost a bit of position and seemed a little dismayed by the kickback, then powered up in the stretch to close with what promises to be a strong kick once it's developed. She finished only 1-1/4 lengths behind the 2nd place horse.

She'll gain a lot of fitness from this start, as well as experience. Looking forward to her future.

Adaay In Asia After Race Report

Unfortunately, Adaay in Asia did not perform as expected this afternoon at Keeneland, finishing fourth in a five-horse field, beaten by 8 3/4 lengths. Your 4-year-old broke evenly and was soon last a few lengths behind the leaders under a decent pace. Turning for home, she made some ground but was never able to be a key contender in the final stretch.

She never threatened the leading trio, beaten by 6 lengths for third. We discussed with jockey Flavien Prat following the race who reported that Adaay in Asia was very keen throughout the early stages of the race and he was not able to get her to relax. Unfortunately, she was never able to quicken when Flavien asked her to keep up with the pace.

After being rank in the early stages it's never easy for a horse to finish up with their true run as a certain amount of energy was wasted.

Following the race, she was discovered to have a very mild issue (not an injury) causing a noise similar to a human hiccup. She will go through a normal cool-out process and will be treated with electrolytes. This is something more commonly seen when running with Lasix due to the natural dehydration. This could have also played a big factor in the performance.

Adaay in Asia will remain with Ben Colebrook for a few days at Keeneland and we will see how she exits today’s effort before making any decisions. Trainer Christophe Clement was expecting a much better performance and we will also discuss with him and our partner group regarding any future plan.

Secret Crush Update

A positive update to share on Secret Crush, who is still at Wavertree in Ocala, FL.

The son of Candy Ride continues to gallop daily at Wavertree Stables and is doing well, especially mentally which has been something Ciaran has highlighted we needed to see an improvement on in previous updates. Part of this improvement has come from simply being able to do more in his daily training which has taken the edge off a bit.

He has now completed three weeks of galloping, most recently galloping a mile and a quarter. Pending all continues well it shouldn't be too long before he can begin some speed work.

Here's The Kicker: Pre-race Update

This weekend marks the highly-anticipated debut of one of our newest additions -- Here’s the Kicker -- on Sunday at Gulfstream Park. The Todd Pletcher trainee has been picking up the pace in her morning breezes, and most recently put in a sharp 5 furlong breeze ahead of race day. She runs Sunday 10/22 at 11:50 MT time. Looks for her in R#3, Post#4 (of 7). Lionel Reyes is up.

Fun fact? Here’s the Kicker's dam Lovesick broke her maiden first time out at Gulfstream Park!

Seismic Beauty - First Update

Wait, what? Who is Seismic Beauty???

She's one of our newest acquisitions but we haven't even had time yet -- with all the other excitement and races and new additions -- to create her page. So that will come soon along with her introductory post.

Here's her update from today:

We checked in on Seismic Beauty this morning at Los Alamitos. Assistant trainer Mike Marlow has been nothing but pleased with your 2-year-old filly and reported that everything is moving forward as planned. She has just started galloping following a few weeks of jogging and pending she remains in good order, Seismic Beauty is about three weeks away from starting speed work.

We'll continue to keep you updated with news from the barn.

Tamboz '21 Naming Contest

Lane Way Update - Confidence is HIGH!

With 16 days to go until the 2023 Breeders' Cup, Lane Way returned to the work tab this morning. Breezing over the Santa Anita main track, Lane Way was credited with a bullet three furlongs in :35.80.

Our 6-year-old gelding worked solo under his usual exercise rider Jose Contreras, and showcased his natural speed while in hand down the lane. Trainer Richard Mandella reported that he didn’t want to let him do too much in this first work back and said, “We couldn’t have him better at this stage.”

Everything remains in good order for our son of Into Mischief who will likely have two additional breezes leading up to the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint. As a reminder, pre-entries will be released next Wednesday but based on the probable starters list which was recently released, Lane Way finds himself 10th on the list which would guarantee us a spot in the starting gate.

The list of possible starters includes Breeders' Cup Challenge winners Bradsell (GB), Caravel, Gear Jockey, Live the Dream (IRE), and Motorious (GB). Additional possibles are Nobals, Arzak, Bad Beat Brian, Big Invasion, and Private Creed which all have six points like Lane Way. There are plenty of others listed with fewer points and would not have preference over the horses above.

We'll keep you updated when we have more news!

Seize The Grey - New Nomination

Our Hall of Fame trainer likes to have a variety of options in play for Seize The Grey, and the latest is a nomination to the Grade 3 Street Sense at Churchill Downs on October 29th.

On the PLUS side:

Home track (also the Derby track)

Familiar surroundings

No chance of another traffic jam while being transported morning of

Close to classic distance

Neither Dornoch nor Locked are nominated

On the NEGATIVE side:

Short turnaround (only 15 days after his last race), but the Coach will make the call on the last if he thinks Ceasar is ready.

We'll see what the call is.

Simply Enchanting - 2nd Breeze

Simply Enchanting remained right on schedule and breezed two furlongs in :24.60 yesterday morning at Los Alamitos. Working on the inside of two stablemates, our 2-year-old always seemed to travel comfortably and galloped out head-to-head with one of her workmates. Pending everything remains in good order and she continues to move in the right direction, Simply Enchanting will soon have her first three-furlong breeze.

Lane Way vs Caravel????

Well, the great Caravel's connections have announced she WILL run in the Breeders Cup Turf Sprint. I'm actually a little excited that Lane Way might get a chance to compete with this amazing mare if he makes entry. She's a Win-and-You're-In. Lane Way is still just a candidate. We'll know soon.

Lane Way Update Pre-Breeders Cup Announcements

Lane Way exited his recent win in the G2 Eddie D in good order and was spotted galloping on the track this morning at Santa Anita. Trainer Richard Mandella reported that our veteran is feeling full of himself and continues to move forward following his victory. The plan remains to target the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint on Nov. 4th and our son of Into Mischief could have two works ahead of this race. Pre-entries will be released next Wednesday and we will keep you updated with any news in the coming days.

Seize The Grey Earnings Landmark

Seize The Grey has surpassed $100,000 in earnings as of 10/14/23 running 3rd in an Allowance at Keeneland.

Here's The Kicker Update and Entry

Here’s the Kicker had her final work on Friday morning over the main track at Palm Beach Downs, covering five furlongs in 1:00.01. Working with her usual workmate Apuro, our daughter of Liam’s Map picked up the pace nicely following her first breeze over the track last week and turned in a sharp final work ahead of her targeted debut Oct. 22.

A decision has also been made to stick with Lovesick '21's original name at the time of purchase, Here’s the Kicker

During the naming contest over the summer, we made it down to the top three names. After the winner and runner up names were denied (She’saheartbreaker and Carte d’Amour) by the Jockey club, the third name, Pining, was submitted but was also taken by that time.

In order to get our girl in the starting gate for her targeted debut on October 22nd at Gulfstream Park she had to have her official name, therefore we opted to keep Here's the Kicker. So it's now official and her name will remain as is here on our site.

We look forward to the future with our beautiful filly.

It's her official name now -- Here's The Kicker

Lady Blitz Race Recap - Gulfstream Park 10/15/2023

Lady Blitz finished fourth in today’s maiden special weight at Gulfstream Park, beaten by 7 1/4 lengths.

Breaking well from post 5, the daughter of Audible was forwardly placed and battled in between horses throughout the early stages. Lady Blitz entered the final stretch in second a few lengths behind the leader and eventual winner. She was never able to quicken with #4 Sweet Hazely who was quite impressive on debut. She was only beaten by 3/4 lengths for third.

We caught up with jockey Emisael Jaramillo following the race who reported that Lady Blitz ran a decent race and feels like a longer distance would suit her better along with the addition of blinkers. We will discuss with trainer Todd Pletcher and navigate a plan moving forward.

Magical Ways (formerly owned) Wins Again

Magical Ways (formerly owned) WON his race at Belmont at the Big A today by 6-1/4 lengths! According to the chart, he was even eased in the stretch run. And then Magic was claimed once again so has left Linda Rice's barn.

First Work: Simply Enchanting

Simply Enchanting had her first work out at Los Alamitos today. Pretty nice time for a first work!

Adaay In Asia Entry

ADAAY IN ASIA has been entered on 10/21/2023 at Keeneland in an Allowance going 1 mile on turf. She'll be in R#4 and post position #4 of 8 with Flavian Prat in the irons. Look for her race at 12:36 MT.

English Jubilee in First Stakes

ENGLISH JUBILEE finished 4th today in her third start and first stakes race at 1-1/16 mile on turf -- The Cup & Saucer Stakes at Woodbine. Patrick Husbands was again in the irons. She had a bit of a troubled trip, getting boxed in, but showed courage in moving up to 4th. Unfortunately, she missed getting stakes placed blacktype today. We'll report back when we get more info on how she came back from the race.

Seize The Grey Finishes on the Board

Not what we were hoping for today, but Seize The Grey did place. There were some stakes horses in the field, including Edified, so it was tough company but he's going to need to get better if he's going to continue down the Road to the Roses. We'll see how he develops over the late Fall and Winter. His late closing kick just didn't develop today.

Here's a video of the Allowance race at Keeneland.

Follow-up:

After learning that Seize The Grey had been caught in a traffic jam on his transport that morning--a delay that resulted in his trainer, D. Wayne Lukas, as well as several of the partners missing the race--his showing a more weary stretch run may have been a bit more understandable. In addition, this race was his first time going two turns and first time over the Keeneland surface. We don't know how much the absence of his trainer added to those factors, but we'll see how he performs next race, especially if it's at his home track--Churchill Downs.

Adaay In Asia: Workout and Future Options

Adaay in Asia was back on the work tab this morning at Belmont, covering a half-mile in :49.87. Trainer Christophe Clement reported that this was another nice drill on the dirt and that he is still looking at different race options for her.

1)  The daughter of Adaay could potentially target the previously mentioned allowance at Laurel Park on Oct. 22nd, or

2)  Ship to Woodbine for an allowance at the end of the month.

3)   Adaay in Asia was also nominated to the H.B.P.A. Stakes on Oct. 25th at Presque Isle Downs which is also a possibility.

We will continue to discuss our options with Christophe over the next couple of days before finalizing a race option.

How's this for a vote of confidence? English Jubilee is coming back from her disastrous start on tapeta (7th) to compete in the Cup & Saucer Stakes Saturday at Woodbine. 1-1/16 miles on turf. R#8, she's #4. Patrick Husbands will again be in the irons. 3:08 MT

English Jubilee Race Results

Not a good result for English Jubilee. She ran 7th. It appears the artificial surface wasn't her cup of tea. Hopefully, she can get back on track next out.

Here's The Kicker

Here's The Kicker had her first breeze at Palm Beach Downs this morning, covering a half-mile in :53.37.

This drill was kept on the easier side for our 2-year-old filly who worked in company with her usual workmate Apuro. (Our Lady Blitz also worked this morning and got the bullet.)

Pending everything remains in good order, Lovesick ´21 is possible for a career debut in a maiden special weight going five and one-half furlongs at Gulfstream Park on October 22nd.

Legitify Update

We checked in on Legitify this morning while on break at Julie Stack’s Farm in California.

The son of Justify has remained in good order on his break and has started light jogging in the arena. Julie reported that he has been handling everything perfectly and should soon begin galloping.

Legitify will likely stay at Julie’s until the end of the month before shipping back to Richard Mandella’s barn at Santa Anita.

Pioneer Prince Update

We have not received official word yet, but it is our understanding that Pioneer Prince may have thrown a shoe. His race could be in jeopardy if the soreness keeps him from progressing, and/or if he's lost training days. Reportedly, he has been back working so hopefully this was a minor setback.

We'll post an update when we receive the official word.

Simply Enchanting Update

Simply Enchanting continues to move right along in her training since joining the Phil D’Amato barn at Los Alamitos. Phil D’Amato checked in with his Los Alamitos string yesterday morning and reported she was in great condition. It’s possible she will have her first easy breeze (official work) this upcoming Sunday and we will follow up with an update if so.

Entry for English Jubilee!

English Jubilee has been entered in R#5 on Sunday, October 7th at Woodbine!

This is a MSW for auction graduates who are 2YO fillies. The distance is 7 furlongs on turf.

English Jubilee has drawn P#3 in a 9 horse field. Patrick Husbands is up. This will be her second start.

The notice of entry arrived after we received an enthusiastic update this morning from Eclipse. If she runs well and comes back in good order from the race, there may be another exciting update ahead in the immediate future.

Fireball Birdie Update

Our team checked in on Fireball Birdie this morning at Becky Maker’s Farm in Versailles. The son of Uncle Mo is currently hand-walking daily and is expected to begin doing a bit more at the farm as you will hear in the video.

Fireball Birdie will be re-checked in the next 10 days and we will keep you updated on his progress.

Secret Crush Update

We were sent a video from Wavertree trainer Ciaran Dunne showing Secret Crush being walked. He looked as if he has matured significantly over previous updates, and is even carrying a bit of weight. As before, he's a good looking colt!

Ciaran reported the Secret Crush will resume galloping this week. He has developed some behavioral issues due to being rested, and he feels it's time for the colt to resume his training schedule.

Secret Crush is the last of our 2YO crop to still be at Wavertree in Ocala. We hope his training moves along effectively now and that he'll be ready to go to his trainer (Todd Pletcher) prior to his 3YO year.

Here are a couple of screen shots of Secret Crush from the video.

Seize The Grey - New Update

We just received the latest update on Seize The Grey, and it's clear that D. Wayne Lukas has made a decision not to steer him toward the Breeders Cup Juvenile this year.

We're fine with that, and we're sure his trainer is choosing his path in a way that he feels will be best for our young and developing son of Arrogate, who may do his best running as he matures into a 3YO. :D

Two possibilities on the table in the near future are an allowance race or the G3 Street Sense at Churchill. One of these races could set him up for the G2 Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes near the end of November.

We'll see how his next works and future entries pan out. Go, Ceasar!

[P. S. Ceasar asks that you cheer on his "brother," Arcangelo, in the Breeders Cup Classic this year!]

Lane Way Now Listed as Possible Contender for the Breeders Cup Turf Sprint

Lane Way is now listed as one of the possible contenders for the Breeders Cup Turf Sprint on the Breeders Cup website.

If he makes it in, he could be facing the likes of Caravel, Motorious, Gear Jockey, Cogburn, as well as three talented horses from the UK and one from Japan.

A lot can change in the next three weeks, so we're going to sit back and enjoy the ride. :D

What a team!!!

Race Not Written for Lady Blitz -- Will Try Again for Sunday

We just received word that the race Lady Blitz was pointed toward at Gulfstream was not written. They are waiting to see if the race will be used on the Sunday card in an attempt to enter her for Sunday.

Here's the full update (edited slightly for context).

The race for Lady Blitz did not fill for Saturday’s race card at Gulfstream Park but was brought back on the overnight for Sunday, October 8th.

If the race is not used once again, we will keep entering our daughter of Audible and report back when she is successfully entered.

Seize The Grey Runs Bullet Work at Churchill

Seize The Grey ran a sizzling bullet work today at Churchill Downs.

Churchill Downs 10/1/2023 Dirt 5F 58.60 Breezing 1*/17

[Edited to add:]

One of our partners was able to obtain a video of Seize The Grey's sizzling work yesterday and it was spectacular.

Sadly, the video isn't shareable but I did grab this screen shot of Ceasar (inside) with workmate Happy Talk (outside) -- an Arrogate filly.

Just two Arrogates out for a Sunday stroll. :)

Watch out for this girl. Happy Talk hasn't started yet, and it looks like she's going to be a GOOD one!

Follow up on workout:

Seize the Grey worked a bullet five furlongs yesterday morning at Churchill Downs and was credited with a final time of :58.60. Your colt worked in company on the inside of stablemate Happy Talk, finishing about a neck ahead when crossing the wire. Despite the quick final clocking, our colt was not overly urged and only received a few reminders via the hands of his rider. The duo galloped out well together to complete the work.

Lane Way Graded Stakes Win Recap and BC Prospects

It was an exciting day for all Lane Way owners, as our 6-year-old took down his first graded stakes in yesterday’s G2 Eddie D. and showed how special he is.

Our veteran was put into a tactical early position by Mike Smith, checking in at third down the backstretch along the rail. It always appeared that Mike had plenty of horse while saving all the ground on the rail, but he did need to work out some running room as he was directly behind frontrunner #5 Noble Reflection.

Once Lane Way found some lee way, he quickened strongly in the final furlong and was able to get a hold of the lead position. Making his second start off of the layoff, we knew he would be much tighter from a fitness perspective and the added distance was only going to be a benefit. In an interview after the win, jockey Mike Smith commented this will set him up nicely for the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint going five furlongs on November 4th at Santa Anita.

With the Eddie D. not being a ‘Win and You’re In’ race, it is not guaranteed Lane Way will get into the body of the field but trainer Richard Mandella is fairly confident that this win will give him enough points to get in.

There have been six BC Challenge winners thus far including Caravel, Motorious, Gear Jockey, Bradsell and Live the Dream. Other horses can qualify for the BC is based on a points system, where horses are ranked based on their performance in major races during the year. Points are awarded according to their finishing position in graded stakes. Winning a G2 yesterday earned Lane Way 6 points but his win earlier in the year in the Clockers' Corner did not earn him any points as it was not graded so yesterday's win was crucial in order for him to have a chance to get into the Breeders' Cup.

These are exciting times and while we all know the five-eighths distance is not our gelding's preferred distance, we have had a goal of making the Breeders Cup race over the last two years and Lane Way deserves the opportunity to run.

Lady Blitz Update - Relocation and Race Entry

Lady Blitz shipped earlier this week at Palm Beach Downs in Florida and acclimated to her new surroundings in good order.

Our daughter of Audible had improved breezes back at Monmouth Park and trainer Todd Pletcher feels she is race-fit. The plan is to enter her today in a maiden special weight going six furlongs for 2-year-old fillies at Gulfstream Park which is scheduled to be run on Oct. 7.

We'll do a subsequent update when the overnight is released later this afternoon.
