Secret Crush Update

We were sent a video and narrative about Secret Crush's current status, as follows:

Secret Crush Update

Secret Crush is progressing nicely at Wavertree Farm in Ocala while remaining on a jogging routine. Farm trainer Ciaran Dunne feels our 2-year-old colt is ready to transition to galloping in the next couple of days pending an additional re-check by Dr. Nathan Mitts.

The video screenshots below are of Secret Crush on the track yesterday morning showing an energetic colt who may be getting a little frustrated with his continued jogs, and expressing that with a few minor antics during his jog.

He definitely looks ready to run. After his vet check, he may be ready to do just that. We'll provide further updates when they are receive.

A Day To Remember Workout

A Day to Remember
(2-Year-Old Colt)

(American Pharoah x Kindle)

Date: June 29, 2023
Track: SANTA ANITA PARK
Distance: Four Furlongs
Time: 47:80 Handily
Track Condition: Fast
Surface: Dirt
Rank: 5/35

A Day to Remember Workout Report
A Day to Remember breezed a strong half-mile from the gate in :47.80 this morning at Santa Anita. Under jockey Diego Herrera, our colt broke much better than his stablemate Sharpazano and took a five lengths lead easily. This turned out to be more of a solo work but A Day to Remember was professional all the way and proved to be the best of the duo.

Both Diego and trainer Mark Glatt were pleased with this drill, especially since they reported that the track was deep this morning. After the work, Mark reported that he will consider both dirt and turf options at the very beginning of Del Mar. The first dirt option is on July 23rd and the turf option on August 3rd. Your 2-year-old’s next two breezes will help us make a final decision.

Lady Blitz Potential Next Start

Lady Blitz is targeting a start on Saturday, July 15th at Saratoga!

We'll add her to the Upcoming list and provide further info when we know more.

Lady Blitz (2-Year-Old Filly)

Date: June 28, 2023
Track: MONMOUTH PARK
Distance: Four Furlongs
Time: 49:00 Breezing
Track Condition: Fast
Surface: Dirt
Rank: 11/44

Lady Blitz Workout Report

Lady Blitz returned to the work tab on Wednesday morning at Monmouth Park, covering a half-mile in :49.00 (11/44). With forecasted rain over the weekend on the Jersey shore, the Pletcher barn opted to breeze her mid-week and in order to avoid a sloppy track.

Assistant trainer Stu Hampson reported that our 2-year-old filly exited her first career start in good order and galloped out much better in this comeback work.

Additionally, *** Lady Blitz shipped from Monmouth Park to Saratoga this morning *** and will point for our next start there. Pending her next work, our daughter of Audible is possible for a maiden special weight on the dirt opening weekend. At Saratoga, we will also have the capability of breezing on the turf if the Pletcher Team feels it would be a benefit.

Mo Temptation Update

Our team checked up on Mo Temptation this morning at San Luis Rey training center. Assistant trainer Kim Marrs has been very pleased with her of late and her next couple of works will reveal if she’s ready for a career debut at the end of July/beginning of August at Del Mar.

While the offspring of her sire, Mo Town, have had most success come over the dirt, the O'Neill Team feels our daughter of Mo Town can handle both surfaces (turf and dirt) meaning we will have plenty of race options during the Del Mar meet. The first options in the condition book are July 23rd on the turf and August 5th on the dirt. It will all come down to fitness and if the O’Neill team feels she is ready.

Pioneer Prince Gallops

Pioneer Prince had his first day back galloping yesterday morning on the Santa Anita training track. It was noted that he seems to have grown physically during his time off at Bonnie Acres and Julie Stack’s Farms. Here's a screenshot from the video we received.

Seize the Grey Workout Report

Seize the Grey turned in his final piece of work this morning at Churchill Downs, covering a half-mile in :52.00 flat. Trainer D. Wayne Lukas just wanted our colt to stretch his legs four days before the race as you will notice a slower time than we have seen in the past. Everything remains in good order for the son of Arrogate leading up to Saturday’s debut.

That said, we aren't expecting a win for "Ceasar" on Saturday. D. Wayne Lukas seldom has a horse that wins on debut, it's more about assessing their abilities. BUT...he did have a big debut winner just the other day, and that was with a daughter of Arrogate, so you never know.

Lane Way Update

Lane Way galloped a mile-and-a-half this morning over the Santa Anita training track and is moving along nicely. Afterward, trainer Richard Mandella spent some time with him, stopping to give him a peppermint and some one-on-one attention. He expects to give Lane Way an easy work before shipping to Del Mar on July 15th. [Photos are screenshots from video provided this morning.]

The son of Pioneerof the Nile will receive some easy days in order to get acclimated back to Santa Anita and will likely make his way back on the training track early next week.

Seize The Grey Set to Debut!

Seize the Grey Entry

We are pleased to announce Seize the Grey has been entered for his debut next Saturday, July 1st, at Ellis Park. After further conversation with D. Wayne Lukas, he was very pleased with how the colt bounced out of his gate drill and would like to get a race under him prior to Saratoga.

He has been entered in Saturday’s 4th race, a maiden special weight going six furlongs. Luis Saez has been booked for riding duties and will break from post 8 (of 10).

One Last Night '21 Update

One Last Night ’21 is doing great at Kenny McPeek’s training center in Ocala according to assistant trainer Shaun Charlton. She has been galloping for a few weeks now and everything remains in good order.

Shaun feels she is moving along nicely and we’ll receive a longer update once the weather improves in Florida.

A Day to Remember Workout Report

A Day to Remember had his first half-mile breeze in :49.80 this morning at Santa Anita with jockey Armando Aguilar aboard. Working on the inside of his usual workmate Sharpazano, our partnership colt once again did everything right and continues to move along well. Trainer Mark Glatt was not expecting something flashy and commented, "That was perfect for a first half-mile, he galloped out strongly."

The son of American Pharoah will remain on a half-mile routine in the next few weeks before shipping to Del Mar on July 15th. While we still have some ways to go, our hope and plan is that he can be ready for a debut on August 5th at Del Mar going five furlongs on the grass.

Lady Blitz Post Race Update

Lady Blitz exited Friday’s effort in good order and received a 19 Beyer Speed Figure. Even though this is a very low number, there is no need to panic. Given the track conditions and slow final time of this race, the number was not completely unexpected.

As mentioned in our race recap, the heavy rain that hit the Jersey shore a few hours prior to the race forced the track to be sealed and changed the track conditions. While listed as “wet fast”, final times for the entire day were clearly slower than normal.

For a 2-year-old, especially on debut, waiting too long at the gate is always problematic and that was the case Friday. Unfortunately, this caused Lady Blitz to miss her break and put her in a chasing position rather than the one being chased.

With that being said, Lady Blitz still made up ground in the stretch and showed some courage to finish fifth. It was a big learning experience for her and everyone expects her to improve in her next efforts. While the Pletcher barn and Jose Gomez believe it may be worth investigating turf with her down the road, we will first get her back on the work tab and see how she trains out of the race before making any solidified race plans moving forward. We will remain in contact with the Pletcher barn and report back with any news to share.

Song of the Lark '21 has been Named!

This exciting Uncle Mo colt has been named! The other partnership involved did the naming, and here's how he's now registered....

FIREBALL BIRDIE

We have to admit we were a little baffled by the name at first, but after a fellow partner came forth with an explanation, the name started growing on us.

Here's what he said:

"...in certain golf environments, should someone birdie a hole, it is customary for the entire foursome to take a shot of fireball."  "Fireball" is a brand of cinnamon whiskey.

Okay, that works better!

At any rate, as with all name changes to registered names, we will be converting all his previous Song of the Lark '21 tags to Fireball Birdie tags, and he will be referred to by his registered name going forward.

Seize the Grey Workout Report

Seize the Grey breezed a half-mile from the gate in :49.40 this morning at Churchill Downs. Our colt worked in company with two other 2-year-olds and jockey Gabriel Saez aboard.

Trainer D. Wayne Lukas reported that Seize the Grey broke sharply from the gate, traveled comfortably, and was the best of the trio in the final stretch. In addition, he said the colt has really grown physically since joining his barn and is improving every week.

D. Wayne feels he is still approximately two works away from a first career start which could happen either at either Ellis Park or Saratoga. The Lukas barn will be shipping to Saratoga at the beginning of July and he will decide where Seize the Grey will start before the ship date.

Secret Crush Cleared for Training

Secret Crush, our 2-year-old colt by Candy Ride, is a little behind some of his peers but will now be returning to regular training.

He is currently jogging two miles daily and will continue this for at least another week. At that point, Farm trainer Ciaran Dunne will make the determination if he is ready to begin galloping again.

Considering this guy's stellar breeding, we're very enthused to see him resume his training schedule.

Mo Temptation Workout Report

Mo Temptation breezed five furlongs in company this morning at San Luis Rey in 1:01 flat. Working on the inside of Miss Obey (Cal-bred who finished 5th on debut in December at Del Mar), the filly was encouraged throughout the stretch to keep up with her mate but did respond each time she was asked. This was a good test for the daughter of Mo Town and she should only improve from a fitness standpoint as that was her first five-eighths. Mo Temptation will still have the chance to have a couple of works under her belt before the O’Neill team looks for a career debut which will likely come at Del Mar this summer.

Lady Blitz First Start Race Report

Our Take

While it wasn't the race we hoped for, there were a few positives in Lady Blitz's race today. Partners on the scene reported it had absolutely poured less than an hour before the race and the track was muddy though sealed. Though Blitzer was very much on her toes in the paddock and the walk to the track, there were delays at the start as a number of the first time starters refused to load, and one acted up in the gate, unseating her rider. Lady Blitz stood patiently throughout.

When the gates finally sprang she was a little slow to move out and started in about 7th place. She quickly dug in and made a really nice forward move in the stretch, finishing 5th but only 2-1/2 lengths behind the winner. All-in-all, she maintained an excellent and professional attitude, handled being hit with mud in the face for the first time, and ultimately showed a good bit of run. We hope this was a solid learning experience that will translate well in her next start. Nice effort, Blitzer.

Report from MRH

Lady Blitz finished 5th and was beaten two and one-half lengths in her debut this afternoon at Monmouth Park. The Oceanport, NJ area received a significant amount of rain prior to the race which led the race track to be sealed this afternoon and naturally carrying some moisture despite the rain stopping during her race. When it came ready to load in the gate, your filly handled herself well and stood patiently despite a delay due to #4 Anajuliaforever not wanting to load [as well as #7 and #8) and another horse along her inside acting up in the gate.

When the gate opened, she was off slowly and was forced to race off of the pace. As mentioned leading into the race while you never know what can happen when race day comes, given the way she breezed on multiple occasions this was not the position we expected to be in early.

The race almost instantly turned into a learning experience from there as this is not a situation you can put a horse in when it comes to their morning training. Jockey Jose Gomez attempted to put her in the race to his best abilities. She took a lot of dirt being stuck behind horses along the inside but still put in a mild rally down the lane. She never gave in or backed out of things after dealing with the adversity which is a positive.

While we had bigger hopes and expectations for today, this is only the start of her career and there is still plenty to be excited about. The most important aspect is she appeared to finish strongly and galloped out well, not far behind the first-place finisher. We’ll be in touch with the Pletcher team and will follow up in the coming days with a post-race update.

A Day to Remember Work Out Report

6/15/2023

A Day to Remember returned to the work tab this morning and breezed three furlongs in :37 flat at Santa Anita. Working on the outside of his usual workmate Sharpazano, your son of American Pharaoh was a bit “greener” (a term referring to immaturity) than when working on the inside as he did last week. This was still a solid move and learning is part of the training process, especially for a 2-year-old. Trainer Mark Glatt remains pleased with your colt and will continue to monitor his progress over the coming weeks.

Lane Way First Work Out Back + Exciting Update!

Lane Way breezed three furlongs in a razor sharp 34.00 seconds (1/14) this morning at Santa Anita. The 5-year-old gelding couldn’t have looked any better, striding out powerfully in the stretch. Hall of Famer Richard Mandella had a big smile on his face following the work.

The big debate now, is where to run next. Lane Way’s efforts this year have warranted his consideration for the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint but it will require him to face the toughest competition of his career.

The Pros

Lane Way is arguably in the best form of his career and if he can overcome the cons (below), he has the opportunity to pick up a significant check in a $1,000,000 race.

The Cons

Despite running extremely well at the five-furlong distance twice this summer at Del Mar, is he good enough to go 5 1/2 furlongs against the best in the world?

Nine logical contenders have run 100+ Beyer Speed Figures of late, compared to Lane Way’s career-best 95 BSF. Some will argue, California's turf BSF's are inconsistent versus other parts of the country. On the Ragozin sheets (the lower the number, the better), Lane Way has run an 11 1/2 (most recent), 13, and 13 this year. He certainly is on an improving trend and could run his best figure of the year next start...and he will need to.

Quite a few runners like Golden Pal, Bran, Campanelle, Oceanic and Arrest Me Red have all run fairly consistently in the single digits this year. Lane Way will also have to ship for the first time in his career along with the possibility of running on softer ground (pending weather) and Kentucky can be wet in the fall.

Regardless of his recent efforts, Lane Way is highly dependent on a good trip at the distance as we have seen, and in a full field of 14 horses that will come on Breeders’ Cup day, the chances of having to overcome adversity increase and a clean trip is certainly not guaranteed.

Lastly, will he get into the race?

Being that he has not won a graded stake*, his rating to get into the Turf Sprint will naturally be lower and it’s possible he would not gain a starting berth in a race that could overfill.

[*NOTE: Though he has not won a graded stakes, Lane Way has run 2nd in 3 graded stakes races:

1) the Green Flash Handicap(G3) at Santa Anita on September 4, 2022 to Lieutenant Dan
2) the Eddie D Stakes at Santa Anita (G2) on October 1, 2022 to Whatmakessammyrun
3) the Joe Hernandez Stakes at Santa Anita (G2) on December 31, 2022 to (Eclipse's) Air Force Red]

Trainer Richard Mandella is game to take a shot in the Breeders’ Cup but this is not something him nor our team have committed fully to just yet. Lane Way will still have time for one additional work and we will continue to debate the decision and will keep his partners in the loop. The deadline for pre-entries for the Breeders’ Cup is Noon ET on Monday, Oct. 24th. We'll keep you posted!

The Royal Duet - Duel Updates

Both horses are currently at Saratoga. Here are the latest reports:

La Cuvee ’21 transitioned into his new surroundings at Saratoga in good order. The barn passed along a video of him prior to training and we'll add a screenshot below. While we were hoping he would be a little further along in his training at this point, trainer Wesley Ward is still nursing him through his juvenile ups and downs. As a result, he is still currently jogging and should be able to pick it back up in a few weeks time.

Guinevere, meanwhile, who was much further advance than La Cuvee '21 has been going through a growth spurt not unlike Simply Enchanting. Although she has continued to train, the rapid growth has resulted in some works that weren't as sharp as her previous ones earlier this spring. Trainer Wesley Ward had his vet go over the filly carefully to check for any issues and none were found, however due to her rapid growth it has been decided to give her a rest to let her grow into her body, a decision we are in 100% agreement with. It's only June of her 2YO season, and we'd like her to have all the time she needs to mature. Look for her to start back up with her training program in another 60 days or so, which will be approximately mid-August.

Coexist Update (No Longer Owned)

Coexist ran 5th in her race today, but the chart showed she came from the back of the pack with a closing kick once again. Her Equibase figure was 72 and she earned a paycheck (under the new rules only pd to 5th). We are relieved that she has apparently bounced back off her last effort where she was eased to finish last.

Lady Blitz Career Debut!

Lady Blitz was officially entered for her career debut at Monmouth Park in a maiden special weight going five furlongs on Friday, June 16th. Our filly drew post 6 in a 9-horse field and jockey Jose Gomez was booked for riding duties. The race has been carded as race 3 and has a post time of 2:56 p.m ET (12:56 PM MDT).

Lady Blitz Workout Report and News!

We received the workout report on Lady Blitz's bullet work today and it's pretty glowing.

Our Audible daughter broke sharply in company with a stablemate and "easily took a 10-length" advantage! It turned into more of a solo work, and she did everything right and handled her work very professionally. Stu Hampson (Pletcher's assistant) said if he had any critique it's that he would have liked to see her have a little stronger gallop out.

The Pletcher team is looking at a start next Friday in a 5f MSW at Monmouth Park, provided Lady Blitz comes back in good shape from her effort today and there are no hiccups in the next week. Exciting times!

Lane Way: More Good News

More good news on LANE WAY. Our son of Into Mischief will start back on the track in the coming days and he should be able to get into the swing of things fairly quickly given the foundation he got at Julie Stacks' farm. It’s common for Richard Mandella-trained horses coming off of similar layoffs to have their first few days on the training track before transitioning to the main track. We’ll report back with his progress over the coming weeks. There's been a bit of a buzz regarding this guy and his potential for a certain high profile race series near the end of the year. We'll see how things go.

Legitify Speed Work on Turf

Legitify had his first speed work breeze on the turf on Saturday morning at Wavertree Stables in Ocala.

Working on the inside of his stablemate, the colt worked much better than his previous work according to farm trainer Ciaran Dunne. The duo started the speed work at a fast pace but both were professional and did everything handily.

Ciaran feels that Legitify moves better on the turf but is also good on dirt, and could probably perform on either surface.

The plan is to give him one additional speed work/unofficial breeze at Wavertree before working on shipping arrangements to sent him off to trainer Richard Mandella at Santa Anita. We'll pass along further news as we get it.

Seize The Grey - All Systems are GO!

We just received our recap of Seize The Grey's workout on Tuesday, and once again it was good news.

He worked in company with a 2YO More Than Ready colt out of a Bluegrass Cat mare (Greers Ferry) and performed the best of the duo with a strong gallop out.

What's ahead?

Provided he continues to train with no wrenches in the works, we're looking at a start at either Ellis Park later this month or Saratoga after the season opens on July 13th.

Fingers crossed he continues to train and work well. Looks like we're almost there! Needless to say, there is a lot of anticipation building within the partnership for this striking son of Arrogate.

The Royal Duet - Guinevere

With the Churchill meet coming to an end following the decision to move the remainder of the meet to Ellis Park, trainer Wesley Ward opted to ship Guinevere to Saratoga to continue her training. This means both horses in our Royal Duet pair are now at "The Spa." Saratoga offers the ability to breeze on the turf and Guinevere is scheduled to work on the turf on Monday morning pending everything remains well with her.

Mo Temptation News!

Mo Temptation (by Mo Town) had her first half-mile breeze yesterday morning at San Luis Rey Downs, recording a time of 49.20. Everything continues to move forward positively as the intensity of her training increases. She will remain on a half-mile routine for a few weeks before moving onto five-eighth’s works. While it’s still early, Mo Temptation looks like a great candidate to be ready for a debut early in the Del Mar Summer meet. (Earlier photo)

Lady Blitz Update

Really nice work on Lady Blitz today, from the gate, going 4f. She breezed in tandem with Silver Ticket, a 3YO daughter of Curlin, turning in a time of 48.80 with a really nice gallop out.

Todd Pletcher's Assistant Trainer Stu Hampson provided a follow-up saying: ..she broke sharp and went around there pretty easy" and "galloped out in 1:01 and change." He also said "all things considered it was a pretty strong work out of the gate" and that they'd like to work her again next week either from the gate or not.

If all continues on track, expect a debut announcement for her soon at Monmouth Park or Belmont.

Lady Blitz Workout Followup

We were able to grab a screenshot from the video of Lady Blitz's workout two days ago at Monmouth Park, which really brought home just how well she performed. She breezed from the gate leaving her work mate--a very nice grey 3YO filly by Curlin out of a Tapit daughter named Silver Ticket--in her dust. Silver Ticket was just catching up to her in this screen shot near the end of the official work, but Lady Blitz was having none of that and refused to let her pass. Silver Ticket never caught her until well into the gallop out and even then Lady Blitz never let her catch daylight. We're starting to see that maybe all the hype about this filly may not be just hype and that the work numbers don't always show the total picture. She still has a lot to learn, but we're really looking forward to her expected debut around the middle of June.

Seize the Grey Update

After galloping out of the gate yesterday, Seize the Grey had an easy morning hand-walking, and snoozing in his stall.

Hall of Fame trainer D. Wayne Lukas remains impressed by the colt as he continues to show progression week after week.

Seize the Grey ("Caesar") could possibly return to the work tab over the weekend, but there is no rush after visiting the gate.
